Re: [All] [Generic] A Policeman Is Your Friend - NOT!!!

Being from the States I have to wonder why the UK makes it so freaking difficult. . . I have lived in Hawaii, Rode Island, Oregon, and California, and have had vehicles in each place. Each time I needed to get plates I was issued a plate from the government that had standardised hole spacing, fonts,...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] XS power downpipes really that bad ?

I think it all depends on what your priority is. I put on one of the cheap ones on my tubby and had no problems for 3 years. It is now cracked and I am looking at getting a different one. However, 3 years ago there was little choice in the UK for a downpipe. If you are going to be keeping the car fo...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Do I Have An LSD?

Best thing to do to learn your car is do some sort of airfield type track day. Bruntingthorpe, Bedford the like. These offer a great chance to give it some abuse with a small chance of hitting anything. Most offs happen into grass as there are no walls.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Do I Have An LSD?

Only if you provoke it. Remember to brake BOTH loose will take more torque then one. Say at 25% throttle you can spin one up in a corner then with an LSD it would take say 40% throttle to brake both loose. This means you could go through the corner at 30-35% throttle and thus go through faster witho...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] apexi avcr fitting price?

They are great bits of kit! Take your time to read the manual and they are not too bad to setup. I installed mine on my own and only had Thor check the max boost was safe.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Do I Have An LSD?

An LSD limits the ammount of rotational difference between the wheels. Imagine parking the car on a surface that has a very low coefficient of friction under one wheel and a high coefficient of friction under the other. In a car with an open diff when attempting to drive off the torque generated by ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Polly mounts

Yeah I have a set of speed source pollys. The vibes in my car center around 1300 and smooth out above that. Try loosening the through bolts front and rear take the car around the block gently then re tighten the bolts. I fount that helped a bit.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Insurance for 17 year old

Hrm, I have to throw a wrench in the works here for a bit. I got my license when I was 14 years and 11 month old. Hawaii has the lowest driving age allowed in the USA with a person being allowed at 14 and 9 provided they have a single parent who is also disabled, with parental consent. My first vehi...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] HELP how can i drive more economically

My daily commute was 31 miles each way. M1, M69, A5 was on the motorway within 1 mile and was on the A5 for about 2.

So I guess you could say it was motorway only. If I don't leave town I am looking at 170-250 per tank.

You could add a mercury type switch and then it'll only come on when you open the box.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Recommendation wanted on Disc brakes??

For most applications standard non-grooved non-drilled rotors are more than enough for the car. I went with slotted to help brake glazing on the pads for when I do track days. This helps keep the pad material on the face of the pad 'fresh' for lack of a better term. However, If you want to go with g...

If you have a good quality multimeter then you can measure the amp drain with the car off. could be a good starting point.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Recommendation wanted on Disc brakes??

Ive been running Black Diamond grooved rotors for several years now and they work fine. However eventually I'll be going to stock disks. I am running Carbotec pads and have no heat issues whatsoever.

Drilled rotors are prone to cracking and with modern pads offer no real benefit.

I can say that a engine/Gbox and engine crane plus 2 people will fit into a Volvo 240 estate!
