Try:
* don't accelerate hard (lodge a brick under the throttle to restrict maximum movement)
* change up at 2500rpm
* plan ahead and brake slowly - leave in gear for as long as possible whilst slowing down
* stick to a constant 60mph on motorways (try sitting 2m behind a lorry in its slip stream)
* increase your tyre pressures to reduce rolling resistance
* keep car polished and waxed for minimum aerodynamic drag
* coast down hills
* move closer to where you work

If I'm skint I do sit behind lorries on the motorway.. not too close though mind! Just if theres a massive lorry in front of you you have to stick at the speed its going..

Managed Colchester to Reading on 1/4 of a tank doing that in my Mk2 Turbo.. which is over 100 miles :D

It'd been on intermittently for around 5-10 minutes. I could've easily have got over 500 miles, but I was on the A1 and there was a service station close by and didn't know where the next one was, so didn't risk it :)

It got some hammer after I filled up though :wink:

You must be driving *hard*, I've got a rev3 turbo and I get 275 to a tank when I'm driving normally... reckon I could push that to 350 easily if I drove a whole tank off boost, but it just makes such a nice noise :twisted:

To add to this list:

* Clean the inside of your car (removing dirt, less weight)
* Get rid of everything in your car you don't need - Jumpers, tools, boxes, CDs, paper, even floor mats...the less stuff in your car the lighter and therefore better the fuel economy
* Wear less clothes (one for the girls to follow...he he :whistle:)
* Avoid short journeys
* Avoid turning your car engine on & off frequently. It's a well known fact that you use quite a bit of fuel starting your car, therefore when sitting in traffic or at level crossings, don't switch your engine off. Speaking from personal experience the more you turn that key on and off the more fuel you use.
* Keep windows closed. Car will be more aerodynamic
* Switch off all unecessary electical items. Cig lighter stuff, stereo, heater...DEFINATLY air con.
* Travel in light traffic times
* Service your engine
* Buy some injection cleaner from Halfords (This stuff works a treat)
Image

* If you need to travel try and do it at night (lighter traffic and the air is colder and denser...better for the engine)

That's all I got for now, I'll dream up some more though...lol

I wouldn't have expected the car to be very efficient doing 30mph in 5th. I tend to stick to 4th for 30mph, and 5th for 40+ (obviously not for accelerating). Of course there's then those general moments where you really do *have* to be doing 60 in 2nd ;)

I drove my car up to the lakes yesterday night with a brimmed tank. Was driving pretty fast up there and used just shy of half a tank over about 120 miles. On the way back i brimmed the tank again, this time I had to stick to 60-70mph and over 120miles I used about £12....a BIG difference and thats a 3litre V6 but the drive back was soooooooo boring I hate going that slow.
My advise to save fuel economy is stick to 50-60 and use 5th gear as soon as poss. In my opinion mr2's arent much fun till the revs are above 4k

I only get about 130 miles to £40 in my Rev2 Turbo. But Im guessing this is because I use it for work every day and the cold map is probably on nearly the whole journey.

I know it's not my o2 sensor as it just passed the mot whilst decatted, just my heavy foot.

Gonna try and take it easy after i fill up tonight, see what i can get, it's just too tempting tho to boot it at every opportunity 8-[

I wish i could gett almost 300 miles, but like you said its just to tempting to hit the boost :twisted:

Always have idiots near me that think they can beat me off the lights in a liitle chav car, and you can't let them win :lol:
