Strange that the WRC cars wrap their exhausts most of the way through. They obviously don't know what they're doing.

Re: P/S Light .. Confusing..

The issue is that the P/S relay can become "lazy" with age (hey don't we all lol) so turning the ignition on and off quickly kick starts it back into life. To be honest unless it starts happening more regularly I wouldn't worry about it. I had it happen once in just over 6 years of owning ...

For those that aren't aware though, they can only be fitted to cars not equipped with ABS.

Re: GT4 alternator setup :0)

Can't remember for sure but the duct on the front side of the alternator tucked in somewhere round the slam panel, think it maybe went down to a small air dam down near the splitter (too long since I worked on one to remember, I don't remember there being one on the back of the alternator but might...

Re: GT4 alternator setup :0)

Well no. When you think about where the pipe was positioned, it creates a negative pressure. That then draws air away from the alternator, thus cooling it.

Re: GT4 alternator setup :0)

did that air tube not also feed air to the top of the cambelt covers? Not quite, no. During previous rallies, TTE found that the timing belt was all but melting on the rally safari on the ST185's so included an additional vent (the bullet shaped one, to the side of the main bonnet vent) on the CS S...

Re: Fuel Consumption

To get an accurate measurement of MPG you need to fill up, drive until nearly empty, fill up again and see how many litres you've used for the amount of miles driven. Divide the litres by 4 (for rough calculation purposes, it's 4.4 to be nearer) and then you have your MPG. £60 doesn't mean anything ...

Re: Stopping aerial from coming all way up?

Assuming that your new one is similar to the original one, you'd need to strip the mast off, cut the plastic "rack" inside piece down a little, and then re-assemble it. The motor *should* work on a load sensing. Once the rack is fully wound out, the circuit should detect load and then stop...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Fuel Light not working

Afraid not :(

It's a resistor of sorts, attached to the fuel level float (it all comes out in one piece if my memory serves me correctly).

There's not much you can do apart from replace the entire assembly with a known working one.

Re: Drilling out boot lock

I was going to suggest wiggling the key and WD40, but it would seem that you've already done that!

There is another method to open the boot, but I don't know how it's done. Hopefully someone who does will come along and pm you the information, to keep it out of public eyes, so to speak :)

Re: Car won't start - ideas/help... ***UPDATE - STILL FUBARRED!!***

Just throwing it out there, but it "might" be the wiring between the alternator and the battery. Allow me to explain. My niece has a lil old Fiesta. Every now and then the battery would go flat, over night. I done a drain check and found nothing. Done the usual of removing interior bulbs e...

Re: [All] [Generic] Sheard bolt removal

Assuming the case of the gearbox is ali, heat that (rather than the bolt) as hot and as quick as you can. It'll expand at a greater rate than the mild steel stud/bolt, and loosen its grip on the thread.

Have a pair of grips of some such on the thread ready to undo it.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Replacement of fuel pump.

The fuel tank has to come down, unless you want to start cutting away the floorpan to get to it. It's not a *massive* job, but it's not a 5 minute one either. Make sure the car is as low on petrol as possible so as to make the tank lighter. You can bridge two ports in the diagnostics ports to force ...

It's usually done to put a little more preload on the wastegate spring, to counter sagging due to age. It's a cheap and simple(ish) bodge.
