[Mk2] [Turbo] Replacement of fuel pump.

Post by bigal »

Hi, It's probably been asked loads of times before but is it a big/difficult job to replace the fuel pump on a 92 tubby? Can a 62 year old bloke with a dodgy back do it? 8-[

And how do I check if the fuel pump is working or not?

The fuel tank has to come down, unless you want to start cutting away the floorpan to get to it.

It's not a *massive* job, but it's not a 5 minute one either. Make sure the car is as low on petrol as possible so as to make the tank lighter.

You can bridge two ports in the diagnostics ports to force the pump to run but for the moment I can't remember which ones....I'll have a search.

Care of Mr Gidden...

Peter Gidden - SBITS wrote:Short out FP and B+. That will run the pump continuously with ignition on.

Bridge fp and b+

I would try and fit a fuel pressure gauge to see how the fuel pressure is if you think you have issues before dropping it?

Dropping the tank on a lift, not too much bother I'd guess, but on the driveway is a lot of work especially if by yourself. Weekends job for sure. I've done it before and its quite a job.

and don't for get to disconnect the fuel gauge sender wires before you drop the tank ( you do this from inside the cabin)

I had to drop the fuel tank with around 10 litres in, as the engine, wiring etc.. was out I couldnt wrie the Pump easily. So I had to just let it drop to the floor because of the weight.
