Hmm, it may be a supercharger AE92 starter motor that you need then. That is what my 4agte conversion uses, and this mounts on the other side as i needed the extra space on the exhaust side to mount the turbo.

I had always assumed that the NA AE92 was the same.

Depends upon how much you drive the car. If it's a daily, i'd go for as big as you can 'til you think it looks rubbish. AFAIK its only a mod for the mk2, but who knows what crazy other toyota parts swaps might be available if you look hard enough.

There is a blade type connector that joins the loom via another connector on that side of the engine.

It is a ground that bolts directly to the bolt at the bottom of the coil pack/ignitor. Maybe thats it.

Blocked injectors? I had this. Does the car even attempt to start, or does it just keep turning over?

If you are worried about the throttle body you can just do as I have done for the moment, and use a mk1 NA throttle body with the idle control disconnected. It works fine.
