88 n/a Mk1b Alternator - 60 or 70amp?

Camskill have two variants available, 60 or 70 amp. Does anyone know which I need? The product description on Camskill's site has both items listed as suitable for "84-90 AW11" Irregular use over the rainy season has made my current alternator sound like a bucket of bolts being poured down...

Re: My supercharged Panda thread!

Well fit looking motor - feel free to post some more images. I've got a Halfords' All-Season medium cover for about £60 in 'medium'. It's much better than you might think and is a great fit if you augment the built-in straps with a thin rope across the bottom of the windscreen. It's breathable and p...

Re: Cooling fan not kicking-in

The passenger compartment heater is on a different circuit to the rad so the fact that this wasn't getting hot suggests there is more wrong than a stuck thermostat. After looking through the BGB through tear-stained eyes, I'm going to check the temperature sensors connectivity. If I can't fix it by...

Re: Cooling fan not kicking-in

About a pint I suppose - it didn't dip below the min in the header tank and I vented the steam. I was lucky I could find somewehere to pull over and that I noticed straight away.

I'll change the thermostat shortly. Cheers.

Cooling fan not kicking-in

I only run my Mk 1b every 10-14 days this time of year, just a handful of miles to pump the fluids round, charge the battery and work the brakes. Always starts on the button, settles quickly and runs impeccably until this afternoon. A few minutes into my short journey in central London, I was aware ...

Have got my bolt out Alex :) I have a set of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IRWIN-5PC-BOLT-GRIP-NUT-BOLTS-REMOVER-BASE-SOCKET-SET-/121039479764?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item1c2e83e3d4 Worked a treat :thumleft: I've got that particular set and they'll work on nuts that are practically cy...

Re: Jasma Camshafts

It's effectively tantamount to registering a questionable electrical manufacturer in SE Asia and naming it EU Approved Electrical Co.

It doesn't necessarily mean the product is crap but the branding suggests (to me at least) that it might well be.

I'm always picking out splinters, me!

I just think that classic cars look better for not being subjected to contemporary fad 'styling' - did our parents refrain from putting chrome arches on their MGBs for nothing?

Re: Vinyl wrap... anyone done a whole mk1?

What loopy unattractive products. Why not whack a couple of rolls of woodchip over your car instead - £10.00 tops and you can repaint it with a sheepskin roller in 30 minutes.

I can see a market for some of this old tosh though - condoms in a can springs to mind.

Re: Jasma Camshafts

Jasma are a Malaysian company.

Draw your own conclusions as to whether they commission the manufacture of these camshafts from expensive Japanese sources or whether they're made from re-cycled British manhole covers in Guandong.

How so?

Very pretty yet pleasantly understated car. Like the cam-covers very much.

Owner must be single (or very fortunate) to be able to lavish that much love and wonga on the car.

Re: What a sad sight

[Toyota did not do a good job of rust proofing back then. We'll have to agree to disagree then as I believe they're better built and rust-proofed than the majority of other 80's cars. Anyways, seeing as how you once formed a splendid lobster-claw with a MkI and a road-sign (or was it a lamp-post?),...

Re: What a sad sight

They are utter rustbuckets made out of Italian steel. I'm not sure there's anything wrong with Italian steel. All those rapid disintegration Lancias and Alfas of the seventies and eighties were made from cheap imported Russian 'steel'. I had a five-year-old Alfasud Sprint in the early eighties that...

Re: What a sad sight

Eventually the price will go up, but it will never a be a high value car. It seems to be the way that it's the cars with the racing heritage that seem to be sought after and get the high value. The MK1s lack of any motorsport history is a shame. Also the cars are nowhere near low in numbers. You've...

Re: Sunroof drain holes

If you look at the underside of the sill, you'll see a couple of plastic plugs with a hole in the middle with a cross of plastic in it - these are the drain holes. Check they aren't blocked. When you replace the drain pipes ( which IIRC are about 10mm internal diameter and 12mm external ) it may be...
