Jasma Camshafts

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Has anyone had any interraction with these in general?

I've found some new 264 degree for a decent price...

Any comments?

JASMA doesn't sound right, aren't they the people who do the Japanese equivalent of 'E' marking car parts for type approval?

Interesting, I've never seen them before.

Only down side of those is the lift on the cams, you want a bit more than 8.1 mm IMO. :-k

8.1mm is fine really. The 264 HKS cams come in 8.1 and 8.3. Remember this is with standard valve train components.

Paul mentioned that 'Jasma' are a company.

I guess you take your chances, but I for one would only consider a reputable make in all honesty. HKS cams come up for sale second hand if you're patient, otherwise it's bite the bullet and buy new I guess.

If you are interested in cams the AE86 forums are the places to look because so many AE86's have aftermarket cams in. Mind did as an example.

Well for reputable makes you pay more.

Like you go to Toyota for Cambelts and I go to Camskill and save myself £40-50 and there is no diffence in product quality.

Swings and roundabouts really.

I'd rather have reputable brand. Cambelts aren't actually that expensive.

Whilst the quality may not be different on some items, this isn't the case on other items.

If you want to be a cheapskate, that's entirely up to you.

Spending 300 quid on cams isnt being a cheap skate in my opinion.

Have you ever used jasma cams? No, so you cant compare the two.

Have you ever had, HKS cams? No. So you can't compare the two.

HKS are however a known quantity and though expensive are renowned for their quality.

In all fairness, Alex, I would expect just about any camshaft from a Japanese manufacturer to be of good quality. Just check it wasn't made in China! ;)

Jasma are a Malaysian company.

Draw your own conclusions as to whether they commission the manufacture of these camshafts from expensive Japanese sources or whether they're made from re-cycled British manhole covers in Guandong.

They are indeed a Malaysian company but the shafts are manufactured in Taiwan.

It's a bit of xxxx really as apart from HKS and Tomei there isn't any other camshafts you can get with a lower budget in mind.

I know and understand they are expensive. I reckon most go for second hand HKS.

Though Cat Cams are popular:

Not quite sure on price but bound to be cheaper than Toda/HKS.

A fairly helpful thread here about cams and the like:

Jasma Malaysia:

A customer of mine in NZ tells me their reputation is cheap copies of well known branded products.

A cheap copy that works, or a cheap copy that will fall apart in weeks Peter?

I received an email from the outlet on Australian Ebay 'Fitzrace' today explaining they came with no warranty and the quality is 'pretty decent' - he didn't exactly sell me the product with that statement :(

I don't know it they are still going but TED components or Kamakazi Cams in Canada used to be well thought of amongst the American Mk1 guys.

You'd be wanting a set of their KK101s.
