Cold start would not make it run that rich. I think it is more like something along the ecu side that is making the injectors open fully on idle, possibly a break between afm and ecu? Use the bgb to check the vaultages at the pins.

What ecu you running? Turn the fuel up! get some sutt on it! It does fit both ways. Try with the hammer, always works.
1: When you say a pea shooter... You are putting it in the correct way? Its just you can bearly see it with the baffle in? (I have seen it done before) 2: If Its in the wrong way round it will rattle, if not where the outer rim is that sits in the exhaust, give it a tap with a hammer, makes it sligh...
