[Mk2] [Turbo] T88 not running well.... help needed

Car fires up alright but struggles to idle.
Have to keep the rev above 1500rpm to keep it from stalling.
Weird thing is the boost gauge is showing positive pressure!!

Yesterday discovered a leaky return fuel line. (Fuel seen dripping out)
Will be replacing it tomorrow.
Can't see this being the cause of bad idling.

Have replaced the dist. cap, arm and lead set to OE parts.
Spark plugs are NGK BKR8EIX

Engine using a power fc and f-con pro. so faulty afm is out as it doesn't have one.

Have checked air leakages but none found so far.

Any ideas as to what i could check next?

Not yet.
Hoping to get over the problem and then the re-map.

Must add that i didn't check the plug gap.
Should this be 0.8 mm?

I'd run a cooler plug than that mate, i'd try a BKR7 which is generally what's recommended for upped boost on a stock car, never mind with a turbo the size of a dustbin!

Do the Power FCs have a safe mode? if it's mapped for jap fuel you could have picked up a bit of knock and sent it into safe mode.

just an idea

You should be able to use your pfc hand contorller to make sure all sensors are working. Have you done this? And no the PFC doesnt have a safe mode like the stock ECU.

ok if that thing is setup on 1000cc or larger injectors ,and has got 272 or 284 cams , then it won't idle very well anyhow

Whats the power fc controlling, and whats the f-con controling? (secondary injectors?)

Michael.

There is no hand controller with the pfc. I think the pfc acts like the
OE ecu and the f-con piggy backs on to it.
Anyway, managed to get the car going and idle abeit a bit lumpy.

Car is now at Perfect Touch for mapping. Apparently, they can now
map f-con.

Spoke to Perfect Touch today and they confirmed that the car is running a stroker kit. :D

Tomorrow Rob will start mapping and hopefully any niggly problems
will be established and sorted.

Would anyone like to guess the power at 1.8 bar?

Must change the engine lid. With no fan in the engine bay, heat is
a big problem.

To anyone running similar set up with the swirl pot, is it normal
for the pot to get very warm?

The plugs you have are fine - i run them in my 500+ car with no issues but would recommend 0.6mm plug gap as that turbo is going to be producing lots of air @ 1.8bar so the gaps need to be close to stop the spark blowing out.

Rob will sort it as he's a switched on guy. As for power - 600 is my guess.... keep us posted :thumleft:

Speak to Rogue, their fan extraction kit which fits under the OEM turbo lid might help a lot. :thumleft:

Wasnt it a T88 that put down 704whp in the states a few weeks back?

As mentioned, you'll find that cars running with 1000cc injectors and high lift/long duration cams won't idle very well. Mine's only running 870's and 264 cams, and it's pretty lumpy. Idle is around 1300rpm when warm.

As Nathan suggested, I'd expect hat to be making at least 550/600.

Hope you have a good supply of nappies.

Is the car a dyno queen or are you planning to use it in anger?

Get some times in and consider the TOTB event if so :-k

Well, well. Just got off the phone.

It's got 1600cc injectors, revs to 10k and made

580 whp @ 1.2 bar.

So at 1.8 bar, i don't think i'll be able to handle it. :(

I'm over the moon but at the same time don't quite know how
to use this car. I originally plan to use it as a track car.

awsome numbers i must say. but if it were me i'd be binning the power FC and F-con and getting a single ECU like the motec.

and @ only 1.2bar! must have a fair bit internal work done, would be nice to see the graph aswell to see how the power delivery is
