Re: Rally Car

Are you both at the North West Stages this year? Afraid we're not competing this year. The car needs the gearbox rebuilding as synchro on 2nd gear has gone. Paul bought a farmhouse before Christmas and has been busy moving - we've been using the service van & car transporter trailer for removal...

Damn. If only you knew someone with a spare 3 grand who doesn't fancy having a C64 gearbox dropped on his chest another 25 times.

Re: Rally Car

Not a happy ending indeed - clean break of the driveshaft or was it a CV joint ? It twisted the end off the left driveshaft. The outer CV looks ok, but it could be a challenge getting the remains of the shaft out. It broke right at the end of the CV. These were the Lotus Exige shafts we had resplin...

crash, bang, wallop!

Due to a slight car/tyre wall interface the other weekend at Anglesey, I may be in the market for some bits. If anyone has any front bumpers (Mk1a or b, not really bothered which), lower front plastic chin spoilers or a front panel that's reasonably straight, I would be interested. PM me if you have...

Re: multi car insurance?

I looked on Admiral's website about putting a '95 Golf GTi and my '88 Mk1 on a multicar policy. The site let me waste 15 minutes inputting all the cars' data, then when I pressed 'submit' said they couldn't quote me because the MR2 was too old. On the flipside, REIS (Richard Egger Insurance) told me...

Re: Removing Sound Deadening Material

I'd recommend finding an engineering graduate with a degree, but no job, and leaving him inside the car for a couple of days with a heat gun, a spatula, and a crate of beer.

A 'little' off? I think you must be magnetic old boy, coz every Mk1 you drive seems to be attracted to steel fences.

Your car will probably have dissolved by September anyway. Get the Porch going again.

Well done bud. Gutted I had to drag myself and the SWMBO to Silverstone for the F1 instead of weighing down the silly seat. SWMBO? - Doesn't come close. I quote 'Wayne's World', she's a Psycho Hose Beast*. And that's when she's sober. *Usually a female in gender, who after taking on your "hose...

Re: Rally Car

Just got back from the Enville Stages at Anglesey. 26th overall and 1st in Class B (1401 - 1600cc). We finished about 1 minute 20 seconds ahead of 2nd in class. A great result, and still on Toyo R888s.

Re: Rally Car

Bump! If anyone is in the Anglesey area this weekend I'm out in the 2 on the Warrington & District Motor Club's Enville Stages Rally this Sunday. Car 34. It's about a tenner to get into the circuit for the day and there's a lot of quick kit entered. Come along to spectate and come over to the pi...

Re: Strut Braces..

I'm sure rose joints will be involved. 25mm tube would be more than man enough for the job. We'll see what we can find. Carbon would be nice, none has found it's way onto the car yet, it would be ideal, very strong in tension and compression. Maybe we could cover the bar with a carbon fibre sleeve,...

Re: Drive Shaft oil seal.

As a result of my ongoing shake down season I now have a leak on my o/s drive shaft seal. The Haynes book of lies says that you just knock the drive flange out with a hammer and drift after the drive shaft has been dropped. Is it really that simple or am I facing prolems this weekend? Thanks, Bod Y...

Re: Using the rear tow eye

simplest option would be put a decent recognisable location in your profile and 3 or 4 members from here would turn up and push the car down the road for you, only expecting tea and biscuits in return  Second that, or maybe a member near you has a trailer/flatbed/spec lift and would be prepare...

Or you could buy some undamaged rims from aw11rally for a tenner each and save yourself elventy hours filing a knackered rim?

They're only 15 miles away.

Buy 3 for the price of 4 and get 1 free.

Ah, go on.

Re: curbed original pepperpot steel rim edge repair?

the day after a fresh MOT, went and ground half the steel edge on the nearside front! sickening crunch. the rest of the wheel is fine, so, as per title of post, has anyone had the lip edge repaired? contemplating wheel off, air out, and a small grinder to re- round the edge... anyone done this? ta ...

Re: Rally Car

You could try lower profile tyres on the same size rim - on my trackday car I use 15" wheels with 195/45 tyres instead of 195/50 to lower the gear ratio slightly No joy there. Competition tyres tend to be slightly higher profile, probably as they have reinforced sidewalls, and to protect the w...
