Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Stef Derner Speedo Converter
The top right screw brings the modified signal from the speedo if no delimiter is fitted. If the signal into the speedo is converted to MPH then you don't want the signal out of the speedo to go to the ECU so the screw is isolated from the flexi PCB/ECU by the delimiter, which sends it's own KMPH si...

It's easy to do the swap, but you need to remove the speedo from the cluster and swap just that instrument. The pinouts of the plugs in the back of the cluster are different on the UK and JDM cars. The plugs fit but as the wiring is different, sometimes you get smoke.

Re: Mr2 Turbo delimiter
It depends on whether the car is a rev 1 or rev 2 and later.
The rev 1 is a mechanical speedo.
Rev 2 and later are electronic and much easier to convert to mph and delimit.

Re: '91 G-Limited Rev1 Import ... is it possible to delimit ??
If you fit the mechanical converter, then the speedo will read in MPH and the pulses given out to the ECU will be reduced in frequency. This will have the effect of moving the 180kmph limit to 180mph. Unfortunately the same signal goes to the power steering and the PAS will shut off at 80mph instead...

Re: Turbo cut out while driving.....
I'm pretty certain the wires on your speedo sensor are broken. As the engine/box rocks about under acc/decelleration, the wires to the sensor are flexed back and forth and the copper strands inside the cable work harden and break. When you accelerate the cable is stretched and the wires part slightl...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 1 tubby standalone speedo and P/S issues
How many pulses per rev of the cable does your VDO signal generator send out? You could slave this to your ECU if it is four per rev. The ECU gives out 5V, this is grounded by the reed switch in the rev 1 speedo, four times per revolution of the speedo cable. The ECU then sends out the signal to the...

Re: Rev 1 G-Limited speed restrictor
You can sometimes get away with putting a switch in the wire from the speedo to the ECU. When you want to be rid of the limit open the switch. Caveat: You will almost certainly get an engine check light if you do this as the speed pulses will drop off. This will put the engine management into safe m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo needle moves on start up
It's definitely one of my delimiters. To switch off the sweep test, get access to the back of the speedo and locate the delimiter PCB attached to the back of the speedo. Find the conversion setting switch. With the ignition on, flick the switch to the opposite position and return it to the original ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] delimiter/mph converter
It's not truly a delimiter. It's just a converter. On the MKII, the 12V speed pulses go from the gearbox sensor to the speedo, where they are converted to 5V and sent on to the ECU, where the speed limiting takes place. If you convert the KMPH pulses to MPH pulses, then the limit is moved to 180mph,...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo fail
The extra wiring was almost certainly put in to replace a previous speed converter. The brown wire is ground, the purple wire is pulses out to the speedo and the green and black is the ign 12V. The purple wire carries pulses from the sensor to the speedo head, the speedo then grounds the signal from...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo fail
When you removed the converter, did you re-connect the speed pulse line to the speedo? Do you have access to an oscilloscope so you could check the pulses coming into the speedo head? If your measurements are the voltages at each of the screws then yes, your battery is low, but it might only need ch...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] converting to 180 speedo
If you have 0-110 clocks then your car probably IS reading in kph. If you swap the dials to 0-180 ones and then fit a speed convertor it should work fine AND stop the limiter kicking in at 110mph. Only other thing to bear in mind is that the power steering changes ratio at 40kph and after you fit t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo fail
The sensor wires can break inside the insulation at the connector for the sensor. Check for 12v pulses on the top left screw of the speedo viewed from behind. Bottom left is 12V, bottom right is ground, top right is 5V pulses to ECU. The sensor is easy to lift out of the gearbox, so you can get some...

Re: Dumb blonde newbie with lots of questions!
One thing to watch for on big rims is that mud and stuff will gather inside the rims, this then settles as the bottom of the rim and throws the wheel balance out. If you get judder, it's always worth cleaning the inside of the rims before getting them balanced as if you balance them with crud stuck ...

Thanks for confirming Stef. Can you just clairfy what the switch is for on the little gizmo? I seem to remember its something to do with the mileage counter? Thanks, Ant The switch has two uses. In the KMPH position (i.e. if kmph speedo fitted) it converts the pulse stream from KMPH to MPH. In the ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] JDM Limiter
The Bits4Twos delimiter sold in TwosRus is a two stage device. Stage one converts the kmph pulses to mph, so you still need that part if you have a kmph speedo that you want to read in MPH. The Clamping delimiter stage will be redundant, but as both stages are on one board, you will need to keep it ...
