Re: Definitive on changing brake fluid
All that I ever do is; Put the car on axle stands with the wheels off. Ok, not necessary but it makes the access much easier. Get a long length of clear tubing, at least a foot long. Push onto the nipple & arrange it so that it goes upwards before dropping down into your catch tin/can/whatever. ...

Re: Aerial Replacement...
when I had problems with mine, I found a place on Ebay selling replacement masts. You need to check the diameter though, they have a couple of options for the MR2. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AERIAL-MAST-TOYOTA-CELICA-MR2-LEXUS-LS400-GS300-RX300_W0QQitemZ110347645536QQihZ001QQcategoryZ100915QQssPageNameZW...

Re: Sacrificial anode
incredibly expensive and probably wont work anywhere near as effectively as a proper zinc coating. I've got to agree with that comment, when I mentioned sprayed panels earlier I was meaning metal spray or similar, not a paint spray. With zinc-rich paints (which are sometimes used in industry to tou...

Re: Sacrificial anode
The principle does work in cars, but not in the way you're looking at. When manufacturers use zinc sprayed panels or galvanised components, then that's the same process/chemistry they're using. As stated, it also works well on ships for the reasons that Karl cited, but with a car it's more of a prob...

Re: Ashley Goodfield,beware.
geez, that's lousy, and I can't see any good excuses for the guy. Ok, being practical, you're a trader so can you trace the car through the DVLA ? Ok, that assumes you've still got the number but at least you know the guy's name to start with. I thought the DVLA would release information about cars ...

Re: Rusty problem - advice from welders?
FFS are people reading things right!!! fibre glass is super strong what do you think alot of cars have been made of over the years? Sorry, but this is misleading. We're talking of using grp to repair rusty steel so it's the bond interface that's critical, not how strong the repair material is. Yep,...

Re: Rusty problem - advice from welders?
When repairing this section properly, you should remove all traces of rotten outer panel, then you will find that the internal webbing around the bottom of the B post near the seat belt points will most certainly be rotten too ditto. Although the actual section isn't what I'd call serious structura...

Re: what do you do if...
On the otherhand if a buyer enters a bid of £1500 then that is the price they are prepared to pay for the car regardless of wether someone else bids it up or not.....i dont see what the problem is? You wanted to pay £1500 for it and you won? Shill bidding is a fact of ebay life,it will always go on...

Hi, Assuming it's that red Mk1 Tbar and if you don't want it, just tell the owner so. I was also watching that one but dislike the private listing auctions simply because it's so open to fraud and I decided not to bid in the end. And this looks very much like schill bidding to me - both bids cancell...

I was watching that one as well.
Strange old world isn't it
?

From memory last time there were at 22 bids and apparently someone went up to
£2450 for it.
Odd that they didn't bid again on this auction to take it over the
£2100 mark.

Re: Minty Mk1 on eBay... worth a look (Hertfordshire)
I too don't like private listings as i like transparency, or at least as much as possible What do these people have to hide? ditto "well said" ... There is no reason for a seller to give stuff away at bargain prices - either start the bidding at what you want, or set a reserve. You get th...

Re: Minty Mk1 on eBay... worth a look (Hertfordshire)
without wishing to drag this too far off topic, my paranoia about the private listing is because I've been suckered with shill bidding before and now won't bid on anything with private listings. But in fairness I retract the "trader" comment as he only seems to sell one car a year. (assumi...

Re: Minty Mk1 on eBay... worth a look (Hertfordshire)
I appreciate I could be doing a dis-service to an honest bloke, but it sounds very much like a trader to me as well - why ? 1. 57k in the title, over 59k on the pictures (lower to grab your attention) 2. at 2 months he should have the logbook showing 1 previous owner. 3. Dublin ???? given how rare l...

Re: How much does a dealer mark up (see inside) - also - dodgy mr2s beware!
funny - I've just noticed exactly the same thing. And came to the same conclusions as yourself... I don't mind folks making a few bob out of selling honest cars, but the "shine 'em up, move 'em on" brigade are no use at all. A good original post, fascinating to see others hitting the same ...

Re: Re-spray
depends how close to kit form the car is.... if you've got the glass out, the panels/doors off then yep, a new colour is a great idea. Spray the panels seperately & assemble with new bolts and it'll look great. But if you're leaving the screen/doors/panels in place, then stick to the original co...

Re: Wrong front drop links?
if the drop links are so long that they effectively bottom out the suspension (i.e. ARB arm fully upright) while the spring/damper still has some travel left. I don't know whether that would be possible though. From memory the OEM fronts are roughly 235mm centre to centre. I measured mine when I re...

Re: Wrong front drop links?
Yes, the OEM links should have the threaded attachments both facing the same way. The OEM links also have an allen key socket in the threaded section to hold it steady whilst you undo the nut. Other manufacturers use a spanner flat on the threaded section and guessing from the length of bolt showing...

Re: Compression Test Results.
I think the reason it's higher with the throttle open is that you're compressing something rather than just spinning the engine. Personally I don't hold too much faith in actual readings from these things - unless they've been calibrated before use then they can be significantly out. However I do ho...

Re: In Garage for last 10 years
Hi Tim, I've stored a few cars in the past. To get them running I usually - 1. fully charge the battery or get pair of jump leads ready. 2. remove spark plugs & spin the engine to build up oil pressure under no load. Check for spark with a plug connected & earthed at the same time. If no spa...
