Pattos Place (Australia) list a clear body so you can make your own, which was very popular years ago and probably still is with the hard-core enthusiasts. The bodies are thin plastic, usually not that much detail but recognisable as the car once it's moving....

Even with the complete kit it's not the easiest of things because the detail of modern scalextrix is so good these days.

I bought a full Le Mans scalextric set a while back, with the idea of modding the cars somehow to make them into MK1's.
The idea was then to take it to mk1 events/shows so we could all have a go at mk1 racing.

If anyone manages to modify cars to look like MK1's, or fancy a go at changing the outers of my 2 cars then let me know. It would be great to get this running

Another idea i had wast o use a MK1 model as a template for plastic moulding shells for scalextric cars, but 1) i don't have a small model mk1, and 2) i think the size ratio may be wrong.

Ideas?

Always wanted a Scalextric set. Had similar about thirty years ago but not the real thing. Dropped loads of hints to the Missus before Christmas( & every Christmas for the past few years) but still ended up with the aftershave & the woolly jumper. Reckon I'll have to go & buy one mysef or else trade in the Missus.

hmm, I suppose the model on Pattos place might be a later MR2, I'd just assumed that because it's listed as "87 TYOTA MR2" it'd be a Mk1 'cos the "72 Lotus Europa Twincam" is a '72 europa, and the "65 Marcos 1800" is the right model as well.

Might be worth an email of you're serious though. If you look on their homepage and then go for the 1/32nd Sports/GT bodies then it's listed there at $6+$1 interior.

If you are going to make one though, I'd get a complete kit with a couple of spare bodies. You can trim and paint the shells easily enough, but getting a decent handling chassis is very fiddly. And cutting up a scalextrix car and transplanting the bodyshell is equally messy.

I was dropping hints too, but didn't get one for xmas. I've asked someone to see if they can get hold of one for me (A mk1 jobby) 'cos he collects scalextric cars by the hundred. i think the cras inside his house are worth more than his actual house.

Hi Jinxy,

If you go to

http://members.optushome.com.au/pattosplace/home.html

then you'll get a frames-based page with an index down the LHS (well, you do in firefox anyway). On this index is a link to "1/32 Scale Sports/GT bodies"

http://members.optushome.com.au/pattosp ... rtsgt.html

which gives you a listing with (I think) the cars listed in year order. Scroll down to 87 and there's a TYOTA MR2. Gotta be in with a chance of being a Mk I eh ?

As I said earlier, don't expect quality detail but you can make them reasonably presentable - have a look at some of the cars in the gallery which other guys have put together to give oyurself some idea of what to expect.
