Never used oil restrictors in any of the cars I had involvement in building, or my own.

Suprised no one has suggested a seized alternator. Would explain alot of noises and lights on dash. Had a good few in my time.

Coolant loss unfortunately will not be related to that. But the knocking, squealing and dash oights could be.
