Re: refridgeration technology in charge coolers?

OK, here's *my* take, since I've thought about this for a few years now, although not yet tried things myself... As Mitch mentioned, Jim Griffin made up a system on "MR2Beast", although he never stated whether he'd got it to work well (he seemed to encounter a couple of problems). What Jim...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

My only question is with the Pipers is when they were doing all the dyno and flow testing did they test beyond the stock rev limit. I will be revving to 8500 RPM so it would be useful to know how the cope at high RPM. Ed, this is how we did things... I obtained flow figures for my stock Rev3 head a...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

That's the one, mate!! :D You don't happen to have a link to the original thread though, do you? Anyway, that shows that the "advertised" durations for Rev1/2 are 236deg/236deg in/ex, and for the Rev3 they are 240deg/236deg in/ex. Just so that people can understand that fully, 0.010" ...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

You may want to read This Post . Although the testing was done on a stroked motor it shows that 264 on both sides is the best combination. HTH Ed Ed, those were HKS cams. Also, not only ...

Re: Limits of the st205 chargecooler?

Going Friday arn't you for mapping on Andys? That *is* the plan, mate, although Andy's still trying to organise the dyno time. It's still touch and go (just been on the phone with him). Tobe fair Dino I'm just looking into ideas, I will still be usind my Aquamist 2d system (50/50water/meths) as wel...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

Whats the duration of the standard Toyota cams? As described above, the duration quoted isn't necessarily comparable to another cam, because ideally you want to be comparing like for like, ie duration at 1mm lift, which is not always possible. I've just been searching for that great thread on MR2OC...

Re: Limits of the st205 chargecooler?

Chris, is that the same kit effecting as AndyF is running? What are your power or boost goals? Really need to know the answers to these to give you a decent answer... Yes, it's his kit, Andy said that the CC will not fit due to the height of the exhaust manifold. However I was thinking of remotely ...

Re: Limits of the st205 chargecooler?

If you could cool the water in the CC better wouldnt this help? For example the st205 has a water spray bar on the pre rad for when things get toastie, maybe adding another rad or something along those lines? Personally, I've found a limitation in my current hybrid-CT26-ST205CC combo, in that at su...

Re: Limits of the st205 chargecooler?

how about the spearco chargecooler? The problems with the Spearco chargecoolers are as follows: 1) the larger one needs a fair bit of work to fit right, as it won't naturally sit in the place you'd ideally like, so some custom work needs doing 2) They offer 2 cores, the larger core being double the...

Re: Limits of the st205 chargecooler?

Can anyone tell me how far you can go with a st205CC? As some of you know, I am currently building my engine. I will be using the extreme boost kit and a Garrett GT30R. Would a st205CC be any use to me? I am trying to find the best way of cooling without wrecking my boot. Any help would be great :m...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

Yeah but from whats written above, that 272 means next to nothing. The measurement should be given from 1mm lift. Exactly, mate, and there was once a post my NoShoes on the MR2OC showing the durations at 1mm lift, and it made good reading. In fact, the article that you posted says it all. The probl...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

Right, let's talk cams... :) Basically, there are 2 ways an aftermarket cam can increase airflow into and out of the engine: 1) Via extra "duration" (the amount of time it holds a valve open) 2) Via extra "lift" There's been a couple of theories bounced about in the US by so call...

Re: Looking at Cams, which ones?

I prefer the quality of hks cams myself. I know people who have had piper cams in other cars which have snapped in half. Bad enough to put me off, ive never heard of a hks cam snapping. As someone else said, horses for courses, mate. I've NEVER heard of a Piper cam having a problem, although I've h...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Lauren, with all due respect, this is because you don't fully understand the science behind it. Slip angles are still present even when you've exceeded the available grip. And handling *still* applies at this stage, otherwise the person you yourself quoted (ie Fangio) wouldn't have been able to con...

This is what I basically...

Re: Who's got the quickest 0 - 100 time on this forum?

Had a quick chat with the owners of that mini te the pod last month, its not a mini really, its a mr2 chassis with a mini shell welded to it, the engine is pretty much stock and by the looks of it in pretty poor condition too, oil form the turbo hoses etc etc. pretty quick all the same, the most im...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Definition of 'handling' "The undefinable quality which encourages the driver to make the best use of all available grip" Chief vehicle dynamics engineer - Prodrive. Hmmm, not sure I agree with that, as handling also determines how controllable a car is when grip has been exceeded (again,...
