Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] intercooler fan packed in, safe to drive?

It'll be fine as long as you stay off boost. The intercooler fan only tends to cut in when stood in traffic, so that the intake charge is cool when you set off again and want boost. However, using boost means you're putting a lot more heat in the system... so best avoided as temps could get excessiv...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo Exhaust Diameter?

It will fit no problems. I ran a standard exhaust system with a 3" decat for a little while, it's just you have a step reduction in diameter, which is not great for gas flow (although still better than having the cat in place). I since changed to a Fujitsubo system though.... 3" all the wa...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Battery disconnected for ages - car lumpy?

I've been away in China for ages, and the MR2 has been sat in the garage, with the battery disconnected (left it on trickle charge in the house). Hooked it all back up again today (after checking all fluids etc), and it was really lumpy when I first went on boost - is this just the ECU re-learning t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Driving with no alternator belt!

Not even pushing it! My alternator seized after I'd left my car at Manchester airport once. So after a week stood with no charge, I cut the belt off and decided to see how far I could get, keeping revs low and driving carefully (i.e. off boost as I didn't want ignition cutting out on boost) Made it ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Alternator

If it's a round plug one (as i think it will be for a rev 2) then there are quite a few places to get them, including Rogue, a few sellers on Ebay, or even my local auto electrician could get one for £110. The tubby alternators with the oval plug are a little more difficult to come by - I managed to...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Would you buy this...

I wouldn't trust any power figures without dyno printouts and a list of decent mods. I'm also slightly sceptical of some dynos (especially after a dyno day with some friends recently, where my friend's alleged 275bhp Leon with numerous printouts from one company, only made 250bhp, whilst all standar...

[Mk2] [Generic] Where to get new alternator??

Afternoon all, My alternator seized the other week, and I need a replacement. A local auto electrics place has had a look, and the bearings have spun in the housing, so it can't be repaired. Mine is the 90amp unit, with the oval 3-pin plug on the back. (Part number 27060-74500) So far, Toyota have q...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brake disc quality from different suppliers?

I went through my local motor factors and got Apec discs (blueprint) and Mintex Xtreme pads as they made a mistake and sold me them cheaper than standard pads!!! Also did braided brake lines and stripped and cleaned the calipers at the same time - in fact, exactly the same as you've just done!...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] How reliable and economical can a tubby be?

I think the secret is in the cars history - obviously there is an element of luck involved, but do the best you can to suss out the previous owner with respect to oil changes, ignition parts, filter changes etc. I think going for bigger turbos and aftermarket ECU's COULD (although not necessarily WI...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] nuclear explotions on quick gear changes....?

I'll put forward my theory: Pretty much all MR2's seem to dump quite a lot of fuel into the engine during a gear change when driving 'hard' - usually giving a puff of black smoke, but occasionally flames. I THINK this extra fuel is thrown in during the instant you come off boost. If you're changing ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] can u get a turbo from a diesel to work on an mr2

Wierdo is partly right - not sure sure what you mean by "operated by vacuum not pressure". Only the very latest diesel turbo's, and even then only a small minority, are variable geometry. The one in the pics is not VG - just a standard type turbo (although it is actually twin entry, much l...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Keighley import garages

I went when I was looking for my own '2. Pretty much the same as has been said here. They had 3 MR2's in stock all around the 4-5k mark. One was sold, the other two were pretty rough. Don't know if their prices have gone down since then. They also didn't seem particularly helpful, couldn't be bother...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] HELP! - My life savings on an Tubby at 17, am i crazy?

Welcome Vish! I'm not going to preach about the dangers of the car, but I will give a bit of advice.... These cars cost a lot to run. They are sports cars that are a bargain to buy now, but still incur sports car running costs. You mention £700 in wages to go towards the car - I've blown nearly that...

BKR7EVX or BCPR7EVX - same thing.
They are basically the same as the BKR7E plugs, but with platinum tips.

I've had no problem using BKR7E plugs for 6000 miles in the past.

901,000 miles

The Mk2 is better than the mk1 because:

It is a superior evolution of a unique, innovative sportscar.

Very politically correct!
