Re: End of the line for my mk1

A friend recently scrapped a Peugeot 306, getting a decent price when he weighed it in due to the large concrete slabs in the spare wheel well.... [-X

Re: Stupid number plate question

Just doesnt seem right and surely is against the VOSA requirement for a number plate to be as near as possible vertical?? Where did you read/get told this? AFAIK there is no documentation or rules covering the angle at which a number plate has to be displayed. It only has to be 'legible' and obviou...

Mine was changed at 25900 miles in July 2005 - when should I be looking at changing again? (The car now has 27000 miles... :? )

Re: 5284

Because he would be sacked for doing it, is probably the best answer - and finding out who searched for information is one of the PNCs most useful tools. :?

Re: 5284

No documents, I got the reply by email. The figure won't include SORN'd cars - I wanted a realistic figure of useable cars so figured that there were fewer SORN'd than registered and not taxed (eg scrapped but DVLA not informed - cars can be "inactive" for 3-5 years before the r...

Re: 5284

That number seems a little high to me. I use the PNC daily, and I assume this is the system used to generate the number. Do you know exaclty how they conducted the search? I ask this because I know that cars remain on the DVLA database for a long time after scrapping, to prevent ringing and things ...

Re: How many low miler mr2 mk1 are they

Mine has 27k miles and not a spot of rust. I don't take it to shows, I just don't get much free-time to enjoy it :( Not sure what it is worth, but it is really just a fantastic little car to enjoy when the time is right :thumleft: Hypothetically (it's not for sale) what is it worth? http://www.imoc....

Re: 5284

Someone prompt me in July 2010 and I will askthe same question then to get some idea of the rate of "loss" from that figure.

Why doesn't someone else ask the DoT how many Mk1s were traded in under the scrappage scheme? 8-[

Re: 5284

Hi, interesting stuff! May I ask, can you scan in any document to prove the figures? I do not disbelieve you but it is nice to have these things in black and white! Also, you state the figure refers to cars taxed and registered in the UK.. those are two very seperate things. Does it include the sor...

DVLA were suggesting 5 days at £650-£100 per day!! :pale:

I didn't pay £5000, I asked the Police instead. \:D/

Re: 5284

A good few hundred imports in there I'd say, assuming the query was based on MR2's between 1984 & 1989 etc. I asked for a search of Toyota cars where the chassis number fitted the criteria XXXXX AW11 XXXXXXXX (where X is any letter or number) and which were currently taxed - I *think* the super...

5284 As of 17 August 2009, that's how many Mk1 Toyota MR2s remain taxed and registered in the UK. I had to make several Freedom of Information Act requests to various government agencies before I found one that would answer, but there you have it. More than I expected, but of the 36000 (?) sold in t...

How complicated to replace front drop-links?

I've got a new pair of front drop links and was wondering if I should replace them myself or take them to the local garage to get the job done when the car is serviced?

I am a mechanical ludite, but have a set of spanners.... :?

How long should it take and what are the pitfalls? :|

Cheers

Abrupt throttle?

The first touch of my accelerator pedal is very abrupt - feels like a switch rather than a progressive increase. The rest of the movement is perfectly normal, but I can't for the life of me drive the car smoothly with the throttle the way it is!!! ](*,) It's not sticking (there is no delay in respon...

Re: 42k miler on Pistonheads £3650

Now, I know I am biased (27k miles T-Bar) but.... I prefer the cloth to leather - it ages better, is more comfortable in hot weather (and, err, cold weather too). It is pretty tough to say what the market for exceptional Mk1s is like at any time. As ever, it's a case of a seller finding a buyer :-s ...

One of my friends is a director in a large company who pass used cars on to dealers. There is currently a lot of demand for used cars and prices are at an all time high (believe it or not). The same goes for auctions. Prices are often achieving way above CAP clean (the average price for a car in go...
