Re: MK1 "Lights On" Reminder buzzer

Thanks for that Jimi.

I'll pick up the bits from Maplin next week something and get it installed. Sounds an easy quick mod - worth doing.

Just one furher question - will I be able to adjust the tones produced as per your initial post?

Re: MK1 "Lights On" Reminder buzzer

Jimi, Very clear instructions - just what I needed. There's good news and bad news. Checked the fuseholder contact and found voltage there when I put my side lights on just as you suggested (ignition off). I also have the blue plug however there is only one Red/White wire in the bottom right hand co...

I'd like to know if this can be fitted to a 1a.

Sounds like a good idea.

Re: Brake Calipers

Thanks for the responses. Couldn't work out how to make a connector so ended up removing the rubber the fits around the piston and then using a couple of very old (blunt) wood chisles managed to lever the piston up using the channel the rubber came out of. Took some time and a grazed knuckle so I wi...

Brake Calipers

I have got some brake calipers that I am refurbishing before fitting on my car. Before I do so I want to take the pistons out but do not have access to an airline or anything like that to push them out.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can get them out?

Thanks for the invite. I always seem to be busy with one thing or another but will keep my eyes open to see what runs I could make next year.

Happy New Year to you.

Jinxy, That was me enroute from Eltham to Upminster where I live. I recognised your car from your number plate that I've seen on here before. Thanks for the comment on my car but you would probably have a different opinion if you had a close look! I've had to do a bit of body work since I bought it ...

Re: Headlight upgrade

wiring the beams up direct from the battery using relays is a good way of improving your lights
its amazing how much current is lost through switches etc.

How do you do this? Has anyone tried this and how sucessful is it?

Also, are there any drawbacks?

Re: Headlight upgrade

Yes, I've already upgraded my bulbs but still think they could be improved upon. Perhaps I'm comparing to modern cars and being a bit unrealistic but I'm sure there must be a better way out there somewhere. I did see some attempts on here of using Puma lights but not only are they very expensive eve...

Headlight upgrade

Just seen these on eBay. Has anyone tried these and are they any good? My lights are pretty poor so I would like to do something so I can see better in the dark. Jimi, I know it has been some time since you posted this but did you ever do a full write up for this mod? You seem to have covered most things in the thread so far but I wanted to know if there is anything else I should know before I start. Come the new year I need a another project to work on and ...

Re: Car Mats

Thanks for the advice. Pity about the OC ones, they look good in the photo and I was looking for something a bit different (and as the wife is paying was not worried too much about the price  ). Like the idea about the original Toyota ones but guess that's a once in a blue moon thing. Any f...

Car Mats

Decided to get my wife to get me some mats for my 1a.

Anyone got any recomendations? My car is red so a co-ordinated trim may be good although I don't think I would want to go all red.

That's what I thought.

Trouble is I don't want to leave it too long with the boot lid unlocked and flapping around as I drive.

Re: Boot lock / release

Good point, I remember reading about the spare key used for valet parking - not that I go anywhere like that. I only got one key with the car and it operated all of the locks, until recently that is. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will have to get a new lock. Found one on eBay but the guy want...
