Boot lock / release

Post by Pug_crew »

I have been having trouble with my internal release for the rear boot and have put it down to the cable stretching.

However, when I was investigating the other day I took the lock out and somehow the lock no longer works. I've tried to soak the barrel in oil but to no avail.

Guess I need a new lock unless anyone has other ideas?

Does anyone have a spare lock and key that they no longer need?

Are you sure you're using the right key? MK1's came with a "privacy key" that doesn't open the boot or glovebox. Could be that that's the spare key you're trying in the lock.

I can't help with the rest, sorry.

Good point, I remember reading about the spare key used for valet parking - not that I go anywhere like that.

I only got one key with the car and it operated all of the locks, until recently that is.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I will have to get a new lock. Found one on eBay but the guy wants £30 which sounds a lot to me.

It is, I've sold a complete set for less than that.

I think around £30 is not bad for a complete set (boot and door locks with both sets of keys), but not just for a boot lock alone.

That's what I thought.

Trouble is I don't want to leave it too long with the boot lid unlocked and flapping around as I drive.
