whining, high speed, motor type spinning noise on cold startup

Hi all This only happens on a cold startup. I get a high speed motor type whining noise for a few seconds when I startup then it disappears. There is no such noise during driving or when shutting down. Likewise, once the engine is warm and restarted the noise is not present - it really is just the o...

Re: normal temperature needle reading on gauge?

hi. thanks for the response. So then is it normal then on an MR2 that the needle should operate in this fashion and not stay still and react to changes in driving conditions ie. hard acceleration, etc

normal temperature needle reading on gauge?

Hi all The little green MR2 owners handbook shows that the normal temperature operating range is quite wide on the gauge. Where should the needle normally be when up to temperature? My needle seems to remain at the low end for much longer than I would expect it to even after driving around 10-15 mil...

Re: wiper washer not working but wash motor is ok

hi thanks for the reply. Where is the relay located? I have come up with a fix that works but is it ok though. I connected a multimeter and couldn't get continuity from the blue/yellow washer motor wire that goes from the back of the switch to the motor; hence no power to the motor. I cut the blue/ ...

wiper washer not working but wash motor is ok

Hi all I'm really baffled. All my wiper settings are working fine and there are no blown fuses but the wiper wash only refuses to work. The motor is fine because it works when connected direct to the battery. When I push the wiper switch the wiper moves but the motor does not run. There is either a ...

one of my licence plate lights doesn't come on unless I tap the other one?

Hi Has anyone else experienced this oddity. When I turn the lights on the left hand number plate light doesn't light up but the right hand one does. If I then gently tap the right hand one though it then makes the left hand one light up so then they are both working. It happens each time I switch of...

Re: poor rear lights - recommendations for brighter bulbs pls

Hi All Thanks for the replies. I read in Classics Monthly magazine that they are brighter and draw less power. I'm very surprised that the tail light doesn't have a silver reflector behind it to focus the light outwards - the other bulbs in the unit have silver reflectors. My lenses are clear and no...

poor rear lights - recommendations for brighter bulbs pls

Hi All Has anyone changed their rear tail lights (not the brake lights) for brighter bulbs? I'm surprised how small the lens is and how dim the light is for such an important light - I've changed the bulbs as I thought they were just old but no difference. I guess the standard bulbs are the filament...

help need to identify exhaust sections

Hi all I need some help please. I have taken the exhaust off my car (1986 1a). I'm having problems identifying the correct replacement part for what I guess is the middle section of the system. It has been heavily welded before so I'm not sure if it should just be a straight through pipe - all the p...

Re: engine revs up when pressing brake pedal and tiny air bubbles in fluid

hi. yes I had a hunch this might also be the case - air sucked in pass the threads or around the hose where it connects onto the bleed nipple. I'll give it another go and put a jubilee clip around the hose and smear vaseline around the bleed nipple to block air getting in.

Re: engine revs up when pressing brake pedal and tiny air bubbles in fluid

I've checked it again and the rev counter doesn't move up but there is a slight change in engine note - which I guess would happen because the servo vacuum comes off the engine. I did bleed the rear calipers with the engine on and off. I've done the same with the fronts but it niggles me that there'...

engine revs up when pressing brake pedal and tiny air bubbles in fluid

Hi All I have just rebuild all 4 calipers with new seals so know they are not leaking and having problems with tiny air bubbles when bleeding. I've bled many brakes before and have never had problems like this. There is a constant stream of tiny air bubbles in the bleed tube. I am using the old fash...

help needed pls - radiator underside plastic cover

Hi all I'm nearing the end of my resto and fixing back the trim. I've encountered a problem - does anyone have a picture for reference of how the black plastic protection cover screws onto the radiator support bracket on the vehicle underside? I have all the clips but can't work out how it fits back...

difference in 1a and 1b sill structure?

Hi I am restoring a 1a and have noticed that the sill structure is different from reference pictures of other people's (1b) restorations. The 1b pictures show an inner sill strengthener. I'm in the process of doing my arches and sill end and looking into my sill I have noticed that there is no inner...
