no, it doesn't mean the alternator is dead...

rev2, yes they will fit rev3 , and vice versa on most counts...
(but high lift cams may not fit a rev2 head with machining)

TBH i dont think it matters gary, its a rev 1/2 sump modded for arp rod bolts, but the oil pump with pressed pulley is located on the block upper left of the crank pulley. steve Coolio. i usually just buy cheapo red stuff pads of ebay ( not RRP) .
my grooved discs eat pads, and then the discs warp easily when trying to stop 1500kg of 4WD Celica. Hence i usually buy new every year. I would love a BBK! or a lightweight AW11
