Re: Personalising my SW20 Spider

I wouldn't like to say if it is hard/possible or not because i haven't really researched it. When i looked for insurance, a lot wouldn't insure the car because of the age. I got it insured based on my wife already having a car insured. This could easily just be me not being in the know! I got my car...

Re: Personalising my SW20 Spider

I'm the same - not a daily driver and i rarely drive into Barcelona LEZ. I got approx 6 more years - so, hopefully the 2GR will drop a bit more by then. What they are really targeting is the air quality, more than CO2. So, NOx and PM are the big ones. And these are moreso the diesel issues. So, havi...

Re: Personalising my SW20 Spider

The Euro standard is a set of limits based on the year of the car. So, EURO1 was from 1-jan-1993 to 31-Dec-1996 and had limits of : CO: 2.72g/kmHC + NOx: 0.97g/km Euro 6 is then for all cars from September 2015. Euro 6 emissions limits (petrol) CO: 1.00g/kmHC: 0.10g/kmNOx: 0.06g/kmPM: 0.005g/kmPM: 6...

Re: Personalising my SW20 Spider

They won't pass the 3SGTE? Is that because it's an engine swap? I'm assuming because it seems like you'd be putting a load of turbos off the road in Ireland if that was the case. I know it's a bit of a downgrade but couldn't you go redtop beams with it, seeing as it's a GE but slightly more modern?...

Re: Personalising my SW20 Spider

Been a very, very long time. Spider now over in Spain and i finally got to respray it (few panels at a time :( ) Looking for mini-Lotto win to get a LPG 2GR  Unfortunately the emissions are getting super strict here and the 3S-GTE isn't going to pass in the near future. So, i need a Euro 6 en...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] How calculate spring height/drop without taking them off ! ?

Sorry for late reply. Last few weeks hectic. I went with 205/45/17 front and 225/45/17 rear. Now, i have a new problem. Moved house and the 2 won't go into the underground parking without going up on planks of wood :( So, i need to raise my car. Dilemma is that i don't know what the current springs ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] How calculate spring height/drop without taking them off ! ?

I haven't chosen the 16's yet. But i was thinking 205/50/16 front and 225/45/16 rear. This will mean my front will be pretty much the same height as the rear. My current setup on 17's has lower profile on the front and so, the car is pointing down and with a Border front sticking out a bit more, it ...

[Mk2] [Generic] How calculate spring height/drop without taking them off ! ?

I'm getting older ! So, thinking about comfort more than lowered stance etc. I am looking to go from 17's to 16's but increased profile. I am thinking to replace the springs. But, I'm under time pressure to get this done - so, don't have time to get someone to take the existing springs off and check...

[Mk2] [Generic] Vertically Challenged !

Okay, i am only 170cm (for non-Brexiters) / 5'7" (for Brexiters) :D And my wife is even more vertically challenged than me - 5'3". She drives my car every now and again and always complains how low it is. The seat in the car - not just the car itself. I looked to get a seat height adjustme...

[Mk2] [Turbo] XS power hi flow cat query

Does anyone have one of these handy ? I failed my NCT (Irish version of MOT) last week on emissions. I failed about 3 years ago and i put on an XS Power hi flow car and it went through fine. So, 2 years after that, all still good until this year. My own fault really because car has been running very...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] NA Intake manifold on a turbo ?

Hmmm - maybe i'll stay on the hunt for a Caldina intake. Someone also said to me that they heard that someplace modifies the intaki mani to a sidemount. Anyone know if that is done anywhere ? The Caldina intake is about 450 euros + shgipping plus taxes. Still cheaper than any of the ATS, Racerx inta...

[Mk2] [Turbo] NA Intake manifold on a turbo ?

Is it possible to use the 3s-ge intake manifold on a 3s-gte ? The reason i ask is because i'd like a W2A ic over the passenger/air intake side and a side-feed intake manifold would make it easier for routing piping. Ideally, i'd like a Caldina side-feed intake mani but they are hard to come by and w...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] ebay w2a cores ?

Well - what i am taking from all this is that the ebay cores must work because Gaz's pipe coming out of the core going to the TB is cool.

I've seen guys on mr2oc.com running these type of cores and on (reliable) high hp cars.

I'm going to go for it ! : )

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] ebay w2a cores ?

I know and agree with the "you get what you pay for" mantra. I just thought that with cores, the design is relatively simple and easy to copy. But, on the other hand, I can see that they might skimp/take shortcuts to cut costs, maybe use cheaper materials which are less efficient at transf...

[Mk2] [Turbo] ebay w2a cores ?

Anyone tried any of the eBay W2A chargecooler cores ?

And preferably anyone with proven dyno'd results : )

I was looking at cores on www.frozenboost.com - but they are working out at twice the price of the eBay UK cores after shipping, taxes etc

TIA

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] DIY Alarm wiring ?

Cool - i've done my AVCR, Steroes, gauges etc in the past. So, i will give it a go. I will make sure to check that the alarm i get comes with the wiring diagram. I tried the battery - but the unit is a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it will work from say 100m away. Then other times, i can be 10m away f...

[Mk2] [Generic] DIY Alarm wiring ?

I've a remote start car alarm on my car but the range isn't great. I wanted to get a better range alarm. So, i was just wondering - would wiring the alarm be something that would be doable DIY ? I am good at following 12v electrics - and my assumption is that some of the wiring will be similar e.g. ...
