how to change plugs with TRC in the way??

Post by iwantoneofthose »

on my rev3 tubby the TRC covers plugs 2&3 making them impossible to get to(i think).
do i have to remove the TRC to change my plugs? or is the a way to do it with it still in?
if i have to remove the TRC is it easyto remove/replace? and how do i do it?

all you need to take off mate is the soft pipe between the IC pipe and the TB, undo the clips and slide it off.

this way you can get the ht leads off and get to the plugs

even with the TRC in the way?? it looks more like its the TRC unit blocking the plugs rather than just the pipe work.. but if i do just have to remove the pipe that will make it so much easier :D

But according to the photo in your profile, you don't have TRC installed.

You WILL need to remove the TRC butterfly section to get to the plugs.

On my Rev2 the TC unit is held on with 4 bolts (13mm socket from memory) - I've taken it off several times to change plugs, I can't see it being possible without.

On mine, the bolts dont seem particularly heavy duty, so I've always tried hard not to do them back up *too* tight, but in 3 years with the car I've never had any problems :P

Mine is also setup so that two are studs with nuts you undo and two are bolts that go into the assembley - I don't know if it's normal or not, but they seem the same design and work fine.

Toyota don't use 13mm blots anywhere, on any car they produce. 13 is unlucky... (I kid you not)

Just remove and refit. For those that have't seen traction control, here it is on a revision 2 engine:

...and on a revision 3 engine:

Heres the TRC removed on my rev3 when i changed my plugs, you can see the 4 bolts you need to remove. Theres no gasket to change, just clean it up and bolt back on.

Yeah its a pain in the ar$e. ](*,)

Why couldnt toyota have designed these with inlet manifolds going off to the side. Save these types of problems and hot intake pipes above the hot engine? Stupid Japanese.
