Doing an oil change

Post by dawolf »

Hi all. I want to have a go at changing the oil and filter on my '2', seems much cheaper and more satisfying than going to a garage. I'm not very mechanically minded but I'm sure I could do this with some guidance. Could someone plz describe the process and the tools required for this? I presume the car should be jacked up first?

Cheers.

jacking up the car is not neccesary.

just lay down on your back and reach out your left side arm, its perfectly doable.

filter can be a hassle to get it off if you don't have the right tools, and if you have a NA this part is mucheasyer with heat shields removed (allthough this in itself is a long jobby)

I wrote an article here:

which though basic and covers the turbo car might help. It's easy to do, and my filter came off without any struggles. A search for relating articles brings up a few other handy hints.
