rev 3 map sensor querry/differences

Post by nuttasie »

Hi, I am going to do a rev1 to 3 tubby ecu conversion. 1 of the parts is a map sensor as opposed to the air flow meter. Have looked on the bay and they seem to look like the turbo pressure sensor by the diag port on my rev1.
Does the rev 3 only have this 1 sensor for boost and what is the difference between the rev 3 and the rev1.

Also Is there any other map sensor i can use as the second hand prices am stupid compared to when i was going to do this years ago.
thanks

You need to use an OEM Rev3 MAP sensor. They've never been cheap S/H.

Just one sensor for Rev3-5. Purple/silver label.

Slightly/largely off topic. I got a mapecu(performance-motor-research)ages ago when was going to just bin the afm. It has its own map sensor in order to bin the afm. Any idea wheither it might be compatable as a substitute as never planned on using with a rev3 ecu but if I can save a few bob using something i already got

Doubt it very much. OEM sensor is 2.5 bar which is highly unusual.

As i said, use the OEM sensor.

What's the advantage of switching to a MAP from an AFM?

Well for me its getting rid of another item to not worry about going wonky lol , but to alot its about getting rid of a restriction depending on power goal i believe.

MR2's are hotwire AFM, aren't they? Is it that much of a restriction? I'm not saying it's a bad idea (I wouldn't know), I'm just curious.

No they are not hot wire.

It's simpler, cheaper to produce, use one part rather than two, etc. At 400+ bhp there are said to be flow advantages.

It's a flap type AFM. not hot wire.

Ahh, fair, I'm sure I read somewhere they were hotwire!
