[Mk2] [NA] Rev 1 N/A to Rev 2 Turbo conversion

Post by Benstanley »

Hey Guys,
I know this has been done a 1000 times but I'm considering the above swap. Now I've read nearly hundreds of threads on it and everyone seems to have differing opinions! Now I know rev 3 would be better but im happy with about 270 bhp as I use my car as a daily so please don't tell me to go for a rev 3 as they are out of my price range. Now as for parts Ii've heard so many differing theories! The engine I'm looking at comes with:

ENGINE LOOM
AFM
TURBO
COIL PACK
WALBRO FUEL PUMP
INTER COOLER
PIPE WORK
ECU
SUB FRAME
DRIVE SHAFTS
REAR BRAKES
BLISTEIN SUSPENSION
EXHAUST

Is there anything else I need? I will be servicing the engine before it goes in with new plugs, belts, leads, filters etc and am hoping to do it in under a week. Am going to hopefully hire some ramps or a storage unit.

Any ideas how long it takes to remove an engine for an SW20?

Things I should look out for?

I have seen the how to thread that gets posted around which is helpful but is a rev2 to rev2 swap so I'm assuming there are minor differences!

Will the loom be plug and play into the passenger footwell? This is another query I have. I'd like to save £395 that woodsport charge for the rewire if possible!

Cheers Ben

I changed the body loom on my first conversion 9 years ago, and never bothered again, - no point. Just do your repinning in the boot and engine bay fuse box.

Keep you original subframe. Rev2 subframe won't fit your Rev1 suspension.

You'll need a turbo clutch and gearbox.

What you going to do about speedometer?

You'll need to change gear cables. And throttle cable.

I also suggest changing clutch pedal.

Why fit bigger Rev2 rear brakes and not fit big front brakes to match?

Hi Peter thanks for the input! Is the re-pinning difficult?

Clutch and gearbox I already have from a friend, along with gear Cables.

Front brakes will also be done must have missed that off! Speedo Im going to get rev 3 clocks as the gearbox has the electrical speedo cable with it I'm pretty sure. How do the clutch pedals differ?

I also have a decent boost gauge to check she is running right after!
