It sounds like the upper mount bearings are seized, it's a common problem and as you say will cause the springs to turn, which is the sound you will hear/feel.

You could try cleaning/freeing up the bearings but more often than not they'll need replacing.

I'd also check the spring cups for corrosion

- mine were in a shocking state

- dampers for leaks and take the opportunity to fit new damper boots and bump stops.
