[Mk2] [NA] knock on steering

Post by bluer2 »

Hi all new to the forum but must have spent hours browsing through everything  anyways just got me self a lovely rev3 n/a import and I love it :D although only driving her for a few days, apart from a few things she has a quite nasty knock on half to full lock had her tracking checked and all in order so I'm thinking that the spring might be jumping in the top cup/ top bearing? Could I grease the top strut/bearing or is it going to be a replace job? Sorry to waffle lol I'll get some pics up soon :D  cheers

It sounds like the upper mount bearings are seized, it's a common problem and as you say will cause the springs to turn, which is the sound you will hear/feel. You could try cleaning/freeing up the bearings but more often than not they'll need replacing.

I'd also check the spring cups for corrosion - mine were in a shocking state - dampers for leaks and take the opportunity to fit new damper boots and bump stops.

I've recently overhauled everything on mine, I sourced the upper mounts, boots and bump stops from GTSchris here: http://www.gtschris.com/store/comersus_ ... ategory=59 and new Bilstein dampers and spring cups from Toyota.

going from that think i'll live with it til i can get some new bearings - and gives me a chance to look out for new suspension parts as might as well give it a overhaul - ta for the link too might get everything from there seems easy enough 8)
