WHY DO WE VALUE OUR CARS SO LITTLE???

Even though I do believe by looking around that generally good MR2 tubbies start at £3-4k, I was very very surprised when I just happened to look in the classifieds of our german MR2 club counterparts. MY WORD!!! The cars over there are up for so much more than over here. No wonder more Eurobods are buying up cars in the UK and taking them across, they can instantly make a couple of thousand Euros!!!

And compared to a lot of countries second hand cars in general are much cheaper in the uk.

Hi, I'm from Germany and I just bought a Rev2 Tubby in the UK for above mentioned reasons.

Prices in Germany are higher because the MR2 is generally a much rarer car over here. I remember driving around in my NA Mk2 last summer without ever seeing another one on the road.

It's even worse with tubbies. Most people are scared of RHD so there's only a handful of JDM tubbies around. There are a few US Turbos but these are also quite rare and therefore expensive.

Also, prices in continental europe are generally higher since there is a big demand for used cars in the former eastern block countries. Even cars with high mileage used to be quite sought after which kept the prices high. Since UK cars are RHD, they are exempt from this phenomenon.

I'm from the Netherlands, and bought my tubby in the UK aswell.

Price idea :

A "normal" NA, from, let's say 1994, stock, with about 100~150k KM on the clock, costs around 5000 euro here.

I bought my 1996 Jap import with 90k KM on the clock for 4000 pounds.

Quite a difference huh.


Got that car valuated here, and got a nice €12,500 value (stock)

I would never sell the car for anything sub 9k €.
And now, with all my mods, I wouldn't sell the car below 12k €.

(need to get a new valuation asap)

And...
finding a tubby here is quite difficult (read: near impossible), u'll mostly find NA>tubby swaps here.

When being a member of the dutch mr2 club (last year), I was, as far as I know, the only one with a 1996 original jap tubby.
So, quite rare aswell

I know mate, I saw some ads like that for cars which you might say are 'stage one tuned' and are only rev2s or rev3s and were commanding €12,000 upwards!

Jeez!

I know where to sell my car if I get bored! Lol!

It's because of the RHD

It won't be easy for me to sell my car here.
Unless it's a real enthousiast like me.
