[Mk2] [Turbo] Power and Boost - Rev2 Turbo

Post by Mr_Two »

Right I have a Rev2 Turbo running 0.9 bar on a stock CT26.

It has an aftermarket system with decat, open cone filter and FCD.

What boost can I "safely" run and what sort of power should I expect?

Thanks guys. I understand this question may have been asked 40000x times but I'd just like to know ideally.

Cheers!

1 bar ! :D

Dont be dissapointed if the boost drops off at higher RPM as this is one of the drawbacks of the CT-26 > Runs out of puff !!

On the positive front... lag is very little which makes it a very fast street car ! :thumleft: !

Oh right that's a little dissapointing, I assume the turbo won't flow anymore or is it the engine that won't like any more boost?

Turbo wont flow any more as the compressors a little too small to sustain that sort of boost pressures at those RPMS.... Expect a drop off in torque around 5500-6K > change up for faster acceleration ! :D

People often opt for the Rev 3 turbos ( larger compressor ) or a Hybrid turbo which has the larger compressor wheel to drive the demanding air.

Oh right that's a little dissapointing

Lotus Esprits have this problem ! :-$

So I'm guessing around 250bhp~ with those mods at 1 bar?

So if I put a CT20b on will it be slightly better?

I've seen rev 2's pull anything between 245 and 280 bhp !! But realistically... you're looking at 250-260 bhp.

CT20b will pull hard to the redline ! :D

Will it flow more than 1 bar aswell with a supporting upgraded intercooler?

Hmm I'll get it dyno'd soon and see what it's pushing

You dont want to go anymore than 1 bar anyway on the Rev 2 headgasket unless you plan on getting a new headgasket fitted?.

over 1 bar you will need an all metal head gasket and bigger injectors unless you want piston wash.

TBH I think your be lucky if your running 230bhp
The ct26 is really restrictive and upgrading to the ct20 makes a massive difference.
You dont want to be running 1 bar with out a upgraded intercooler
And also you have no idea how the fueling is reacting to all these mods and the increase in boost pressure best bet get it dyno'd

Head gasket isn't really an issue.. its fuelling... at around 16 psi... you'll get uncontrolled fuelling as the AFM maxes out ( fully opens ) so just sends the injectors to 100% duty cycle.

If anything, will make the car a tad slower or emit more black smoke ! :D

Yip... Metal gaskets fit right in... a few drill holes required to be a perfectionist. They're a higher compression gasket as well... 1.0mm ( rev 3 ) to 1.2mm ( rev 2 ) which will make it more responsive.

The ct26 is really restrictive and upgrading to the ct20 makes a massive difference

Disagree with this comment buddy.... yes there is a little restriction in the downpipe after the turbo, but if anything, the Ct-26 is a little asthmatic ! The air ratios of the both turbos are predominantly the same with a smaller turbine exducer and larger compressor in the CT20b ( able to push more mass air into the engine )

Geek out !

First step I think is CT20B then 1 bar and see what happens!

I diagree JJ the ct26 really tails off when running 0.9 bar by the time youve reached redline youve prob tailed off to 0.7 bar maybe less where as the ct20 keeps going

Ah... we're singing from the same hymn buddy.... both saying the same things... its a misunderstanding at your comment of being restrictive - thinking you meant gas flow restrictions.... when its like a weasy old man !! limited puff !!
