Miles to a tank

Post by dazz_ni45 »

Hi everyone, picking my my new Rev 2 turbo on Friday from Stoke-on-trent for a long drive home to N Ireland via Stranraer. One issue with the car is that the fuel hand is stuck (dials recently replaced with lockwood dials) so I won't be able to tell how much fuel I have left.

So driving reasonably sensibly at motorway speeds and on A Roads how many miles should it do to a tank assuming I fill her to the throat when I am leaving.

Thanks

Id say 60-65mph should see you 30-33mpg. 300-340 to a tank full id start looking for petrol statons at about 280 though. that is basing everything on tip top fueling and ignition though

I only get about 150 - 160 miles to a Tank in mine. But then again I do alot of cold starts combined with short trips to work in town :(

All in 1st gear? You should get better than that, surely?

On a long haul at 70mph, I got 37mpg from my rev3, which was about 320 miles from the tank. Normally get about 30mpg, which is 60% motorway driving at 70mph.

I'd have thought at least 250 miles from a full tank at a steady cruise on a rev2.

It's not very often I fill up the tank but I'd say I get about 230-250 miles to a tank with mixed driving (using boost on open roads).

Thanks guys. My overall journey is about 400miles so I will look for a petrol station around 200-220 miles and that should see me home.

I only get between 200-240 in my rev 2 and that seems to be running ok., I'd start looking at 180 miles, you cant have too much petrol

If anyone spots a black rev 2 turbo stranded on the road between stoke-on-trent and stranraer on Friday that will most likely be me and please stop and help!

My car stinks of unburnt fuel but seems to run fine. Oh Im running a VTA DV as well which might cause it a little. Might get a timing light and check the timing, could off timing cause bad mpg?

You should be perfectly safe following that train of thought :thumleft:

I can get 240 miles to 3/4's of a tank in my rev3 (on motorways) and have, in the past (when fitted with what I think was a VERY lean running Unichip) have managed approx. 350 miles to a tank so you should be right as rain.

Rev1/2 engines can run badly and overfuel with VTA DVs as the AFM is situated in front of the DV meters air that eventually doesn't actually end up in the cylinders, but vented to atmos instead. The ECU fuels for a certain amount of air, but less actually goes into the engine - therefore the mixture is rich.

Rev3/4/5 use MAP sensors at the intake manifold (after the DV) so the ECU knows the exact amount of air going into the engine regardless of where unwanted boost is vented to.

Erm, its not a good idea really. If you like the noise get one of them HKS SSQV ones that can recirc.

Jeez, I have a Rev3 N/A and I'm consistantly getting 200-230 miles to a full tank. I don't consider myself a fast driver either....

Ouch, that's no better than my modified rev3 tubby! I'd give it a service if I were you!
