Of course, but that's me. I was more interested to hear about how your confidence was founded.

Ahh so you are an SLJ?

If it doesn't involve corners it's not a race at all. :-:

Going fast in a straight line proves nothing about driver skill.

In fairness, im sure there is a good bit of skill in getting a good launch and timing the gear changes well, but no where near as much as a circuit.

Fair point, but to say that straight lining involves no skill is just stupid. Look at those 1000bhp+ Supras for example. To get under a 2 60 foot and keeping the wheelspin under control down the thin strip isn't going to be easy. Even with lower powered cars, getting your launch and gear changes spot on isn't done automatically..

Sure there it takes some skill getting a powerful car off the line but I don't think it's the same kind of skill it takes to handle a car at high speed going round corners.

Santa pod takes no skill really just work out the best revs for the start. (Even I am quite good at santa pod). Where as track driving takes a massive amount of skill and judgement far more than anyone’s who’s only even driven on the road would realise. (Only done a couple track days and am very much still learning). Great fun though when got right. Most track days are non competitive though so not sure you are ever going to be able to settle your scores.

`Anyone can drive fast in a straight line` under hard acceleration if I lift off too abruptly in any gear , the weight transfer sets the rear off in all random directions , now if Mr or Mrs `anyone` tried going for it without complete respect I think we would be reading obituaries , so Luren I beg to differ . Well there is some skill in being able to deal with the balance and weight transfer of the car, but it's not really in the same league as when you are doing exactly what you are describing when you turn into a corner is it?

There is not a lot of difference driving fast through the twistys in a car built for that purpose than driving fast in a straight line . Far far better to drive a lesser car built for twistys as near to , or on the limit . Who is the more skilled , Mr supercar driving the twistys at 50-75% of the cars potential or Mr `2` wringing the little `2s` neck , I know what would prefere .

I'm talking about driving on track at 100%. I would say the driver on track who can balance the car, adjust it's angle with throttle inputs all the way through a corner is more skilled than someone who can simply go fast in a straight line. Remember i've driven Mr2s both mk1, mk2 and MK3 with varying power outputs on track.

So I would say that there is a hell of a difference in all honesty in the amount of ability and skill that is required between going fast in a straight line and going genuinely fast round a circuit.

I was talking about Mr dick`ead on the road , I and most people on this site spend 99.9% of driving time `on the road` as for the track I`ve driven all sorts from my old 911 turbo to a mini , including single seaters and the most electrifying experience of all was a common a garden Seight which moves about all the way round the twistys . Point being it takes as much , if not more skill to wring the neck of a 500+ bhp `2` around Castle Combe as it does a single seater .
