not opposed to this guys, there seems plenty to do and it's not too bad a drive to the ferry.

we'll give it a week or so to let people mull it all over and get back to us, then we'll start thinking of hotels etc. i'd like to be in a position to have something firmly decided for the christmas party so we can talk it over there.

If needs be... tell him to crouch downd in the footwell and stick a blanket over him!

For the last two years we have travelled via Spain: 1000s miles of good, speed camera free European roads, 4 major climbs in the Pyrenees:

Col Du Portulet - 1794m

Col D'Aubisque - 1709m

Col Du Soulor - 1474m

Col Du Toumelet - 2115m

In each of our previous trips we have managed to fit in 6 or 7 mountain passes - fantastic! Arriving at Le Mans in good time for 1st practice/qualifying session.

Likely cars will be my 470+ BHP Noble, together with possibly supercharged S2000, 400BHP MR2, Ferarri, TVR.... Who knows :-)

To keep administration to a minimum, I a limiting the number of guest vehicles to around 4 or 5. Reservations will be on a first come - first serve basis.

The basic structure of the journey will include:

Thursday 4th June - 21:15 - Depart Portsmouth to Bilbao

Saturday 6th June - 08:00 - Arrive Bilbao

Saturday 6th June - Drive to Pyrenees for some fun.... 18:00 - Arrive Hotel Le Picors - http://www.hotel-picors.com/val_azun.html

Sunday 7th June - 18:00 - Accommodation in Pyrenees or Bordeaux region (see below - TBA)

Tuesday 9th June - 18:00 - Accommodation in Bordeaux region

Wednesday June 10th - 10-00 to 15:00 - travel to Le Mans in good time for 1st Qualifying Session

Sunday 14th / Monday 15th June - Return to UK via Le Havre. (To be discussed/arranged)

One of the evenings in Bordeaux will include a family barbecue with my (English) mother and extended family. Copious amounts of meat, wine, coffee.. Great fun. And no problems with language barriers - everyone makes it work :-) (Ask Simon....)

On Sunday 8th / Monday 9th June, there is some flexibility in terms of either extended mountain climbs in The Pyrenees or a day relaxing in the Bordeaux region of France. This might include a trip to St Emilion, or maybe a drive to Arcachon on the south west coast. Since the trip will be a major event in all participants' calendars, I feel the decision should a majority one from those attending. Once we have a list of attendees, details of the options will distributed for further discussion.

Expected cost of both ferry crossings is currently £360, 3 nights accommodation approx. £50 per night.

PM me for more info.

not entirely sure jinx, but we can look into this. michael seems to think there's one in rouen. have a nosy round thier website http://www.rouentourisme.com/default.asp?ext=en

i was talking with pete and we have said that if no further input has been had by the week before the christmas party then we are likely to take one of these plans and run with it as we need to start getting a firm agenda together.

i'll assume everyone is generally happy to go with the flow but if not, please make sure your speak up because it's your holibobs too and we want everyone to get the best out of it :thumleft:

Sounds pretty amazing Peter, but I fear the extra ferry costs will rule me out of going your way, at least for next year!

As for the bolt on trip, then on more than one occasion I've read in evo that the old GP circuit at Reims makes a very atmospheric place to visit, and while I'd like to do it at some point, I'm not sure if there is anything else to do there, and it is a bit out of the way (NE of Paris, around 210m/3.5 hrs drive from Le Mans). The only other thing I can think of is stopping of half way to visit the palace of versailles on the way, but again not sure what else there is to do there...

Just to let you all know, Reims... along with the rest of the champagne region is apparently very expensive. My Parents recently bought a small beer for 7 euros in reims!!!???

Got my confirmation of the grandstand tickets I booked from Just Tickets today, £148.00 each on Tribune 4 (at least, that's what I think it's called!). Guess that's one step closer now! :D

**IMPORTANT INFO**

PLEASE READ THIS

This doesn't look very promising at all. Think we need to sort something else out sooner rather than later as the word on the street is that SF won't be resuming this route at all, anyone got any ideas?
