The autosmart Carnauba Gold wax is that applied by hand in those images?

yes m8 , a good hand job   once you have removed unwanted swirls/scratches its worth using a quality wax. i used a soft muttoncloth polished by hand :thumleft:

I suppose the fact that people pay me lots of money makes me a pro.

I specialise in Harley's as you can tell. An mainly metalwork polishing and fabrication

I use the same polisher as the local body shops. I suppose they must be pro's.

I also sprayed both of the tanks below and fabricated the badges.

LOL@ Marc

When you come over I will have to show an extremely small bottle of polish I bought (about the size of my thumb) for £23!

Anyway, back on topic, I notice MEM uses the velcro self centering Farcela heads (I think) - what do you think of them? Ive got both the velcro and traditional and although I like the velcro a couplke of times I have caught spoilers/wing mirrors etc with the yellow backing plate which leaves a mark - not sure whether I prefer the traditional fitting nops where the head is deaper...

no benefit jeff ! both mops have exactly the same foam and give the same result. i use velcro but mainly coz its saves time changing mops ! i use a different mop for hand glaze , machine polish etc and its quick to just rip one off . next time you use your polisher near areas where you are likely to mark something !!!!!!!! just put a bit of masking tape onto the area

polish the size of a thumb :-k thats about the size of a lipstick

i will come over this week for sure m8 ! prob tomoz ?

Agreed.

I use velcro for speed. I have 4 compounding foams and 4 polishing waffles.

You have to be carefull with the edge as you say. Awkward areas like under the spoiler/mirrors have to be done by hand.

Esp on bikes.

Must get a variable speed polisher. You must be very careful of burning the paint. You can do this even with normal polish at high speed.

I use a 2000 grit for nibing if the area is really bad.

My 2 has just had a good polish for now. It needs more work to get all the tree sap off.

The clay bar did not get it all off first time.

You need to use a polishing mop and soap.

Look here

Polishing kits

Just took a quick couple of pics under the garage lights.

Needs more work but not bad. 8)

I dont normally have a negative opinion on what people say on here but im going to for once.

Telling someone to go to a body shop, pick up a rotary polisher with some heavy cutting polish and use it seems a wee bit dangerous IMHO, admittedly you guys saying to do this are experienced in detaling/polishing and can do it safely and well no doubt.

But i think a novice that has no experience in it should be more careful; understanding that paint depth readings need to be taken, just how fast a rotary works etc.

Just my thoughts, don't want some poor guy setting out and burning straight through his clearkote layer just cos there is a thin bit or he or she is using the rotary wrong! :?

Alright dont have a "benney" about it! LOL ;-')

Seriously though, if you check out the earlier posts hes been recommended to use a soft head with a low speed so should be quite safe with that - I think the "burning he paint" etc is grossly overexaggerated :-)

HA! nice one!

yer i guess you are right, i guess its mroe of a worry if for any reason you have thin paint etc, then trouble can happen!

What ever the case, i think more people should make the effort to make their 2's look gorgeous! instead of dull and orrible!

TBH you can go through paint with a T-cut and a cloth if your persistant - think folks have to use a little bit of common sense (I hope).

I agree - lot of shabby MR2s I see around - completely unacceptable, this is why the counry is in the state its in etc ;-')

I think sometimes folks like to dress up car cleaning...sorry detailing...to be harder than what it is which is a shame as it puts people off. Making an effort and not doing it quite right is better than nothing IMO :-)

Agree with you benny. I think we did post earlier but to confirm.

Do not use a machine polisher on your pride and joy without first understanding the basics.

Before trying to remove a mark you need to asses how deep it is. Then decide if it needs to be filled with paint first before buffing or it is only a hairline and will buff out.

Whenever a mark is removed the paint had to be removed down to that level. You can easily go through.

Start by using a clay bar followed. Then a slow speed machine polish using a soft mop and a good quality product such as megs stage 2.

Then you can assess any damage scratches etc. Leave compounding to the pro's or make sure you use plenty of water and dont go too fast or stay in one spot for two long.

You will burn the paint. Stay away from plastic trim as well.

the megs stage 1/ 2/ 3 etc are xxxx imo, the only decent megs is what you have to order online, and even then Im not convinced with it. I prefer the Menzerna stuff and chemical guys stuff
