Porter Cable is one of the best.
I have one and it's superb!

Meguiars G220 is one of the best for amatuer use because it's random orbital. This makes it difficult to burn through the paint work.

Getting heavy swirls out will still take some effort with one of these though.

Speak to John400 on here. He's in the trade, knows his stuff and is more than happy to advise on products.

depending on how deep the swirl marks are will depend on what action to take ! sometimes you have to flat certain marks/swirls with micro fine 2000 wet or dry sanding paper. burning the paint so to speak is either down to a polisher that spins to fast or has a damaged polishing mop resulting in the paintwork getting to hot and burning through. i am not a great believer in porter cables etc when you can pick up a variable speed buffer as cheap as this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-POLISHER-POLI ... 286.c0.m14

removing swirls and marks is easily achieved using farecla g3 polishing compound and then using 3m finnesse . apply wax then your done. a trick we use in the trade so not to get the paint surface to hot or risk of burning is spray a little water on the polishing mop or the paint surface when using g3 :thumleft:

Just to 2nd what marc says G3 (and G10) are excellenet products used by the trade.

If you buy Farcela polishing heads the instructions on the side of the box always warn you not to use them on speeds over 2,500 rpm - I think thats where folks go wrong with rotary polishers - just make sure you get one with variable speed and keep the revs down. Mine was only £40 including delievery off ebay and Ive had good results :-)

Sonus SFX-1 is also a good product when removing finer swirls

A monkey at Knowsley Safari Park badly scratched my bonnet

After a few passes with the polisher most of the damage was removed (I went over it againb later and completely removed the marks but forgot to take a photo - doh!)

All done

I bought a meg 220 as the porter cable works out loads more by the time you ship it and buy a transformer and swap the plugs etc
it seems to do a good job
Ive noticed when watching the pro's threads that they use the rotary for fastness then finish with the random orbitaler

just so you know what a bargain that is n ebay ! i know i am in the trade and use my polisher on a daily basis but i use a makita and it cost me £465 3 years ago  so the one on ebay should last you years as it wont be used on a daily basis. i think they give you a 3 year guarantee with t anyhoo. let us know the results once you polish your car up :thumleft:

Yes, I'm afraid it was a monke after it did something disgusting on my windscreen (which I cant go into opn a public forum!!). The Kids were asking awkward questions so I accelerated in the middle of the monkey enclosure then did an emergency stop to try and throw it off the windscreen and it du its claws in to hold onto my car!! They are really difficult to shake off :-(

btw you have pm!

I am a pro detailer. Go to your local auto paint suppliers and buy what the trade use. Simple.

Mine cost £69 inc

I use G Mops with G3 G10

For polish Megs 3 step.

Made by falcon. From A local paint supply shop. I am sure its a generic make.

G Mops can be got off ebay or most paint shops. As can g3, g10 and megs products.

Any advice just ask.

a pro detailer :-k is this as a hobby or daily job ?? curious thats all , ive been doing this for over 20 years and ive never heard of a pro machine polisher for £69 not even 20 years ago could you buy a professional variable machine polisher for £69 . i use a machine polisher on a daily basis and i know there is no way a cheap machine polisher would last no longer than a month ( ive burnt a good few out ) for the D.I.Y. folk a cheap polisher will be fine as it wont be worked as hard as say a professional tradesman's polisher . like i said i am just curious with you saying your a pro that you use a £69 polisher ! i am not having a go at cheap polishers but as a professional tradesman myself i know that a machine polisher requires a quality motor , quality bearings etc , and suprised a fellow tradesman would use a £69 polisher.

i use g3 and 3m finesse it to get rid of swirl marks / scratches etc , but it was april when i last used a buffer on my own car. i have just started to use autosmart Carnauba Gold wax which i rate highly . this was the result when i last did my car just over a week ago
