Cheers mate is yours still leak free??

I was pleased it wasn't the block and pleased i hadn't splashed out (excuse the pun) on another engine.
I was only discussing an engine with a guy on e bay Saturday morning as well, that would have been a waste of 400 notes
mind you ive got to put it all back together in the right places yet

Predictably mine seems to be leaking again. It's not too bad tho so i'm just keeping it topped up for now. As long as I throw a L into the expansion tank every couple of weeks then i can keep the main system topped up.
I went the opposite way and have already bought an engine. I'm just trying to sort out exactly what other parts to put with it then buy/build them.

If my current engine can last for another month or two then i should be ok. Once it's out then i'll fix it up and either sell it on or keep it as a spare?

Nice one mate.

I've been watching this with interest as I went to see your car mate when it was up for sale, but decided I don't have the expertise to fix it.

Glad it was something simple. Like you say though you have to put it back together now. ](*,)

I thought it was strange no one had beat me to it :-k
I cant believe some mechanic had fitted a new water pump and thermostat housing, in an attempt to fix the leak ,and didn't see the core plug

All going back

Post by BLZ-8027 »

Started to put the engine back together yesterday, after painting everything that was taken off ,Couple of tips for you all though,

Dont buy a large tin of Hammerite from a car boot sale (some might remember my suspension change on the last car?)

Dont paint the engine gloss black (it looks like oil leaks everywhere)

Dont bother spending hours painting brackets and polishing the water pipes (cant see any of them now)

Oh and take plenty of pictures because i cant find where all the pipes fit ,I thought it would all drop into place but ?? so if anyone has any good pictures i can have ?? Please

Anyway heres the progress so far (thanks for the help CJ)

Yeah a plastic piece as you say and then 2 long bolts go through a bracket which holds the throttle body in place.

Woah, excellent work mate.

I can't fault your efforts, totally brilliant. I think if more people were as adventurous as you and got stuck in there'd be less running costs.

Much credit to you :)

All the best with your continued work :D

a fine example of what happens when you dont put anti freeze in with the water in your coolant...

the caps are designed to give way when the coolant expands in the winter. this stops the block from cracking when it freezes

so... anyone who is topping up there coolant... make sure you add anti freeze aswell

thingy

Post by Ja99a »

Mate if that thing you have is just a lump of heavy rubber, it's likley to be a mass damper, we make exhausts for Land Rover and they have loads of them on it.

You will see similar bits of heavy rubber on the subframe, they are used to change the parts harmonics and remove resonance.

Of course if it's squidgy and soft ish then its a mount or stop of some sort.
