I think the GT4 will shine in the wet.. on the dry you'll always be faster with the MR2 I'm pretty confident about that.. GT4 is pretty damn heavy and they can understeer pretty strong.. maybe a bit safer yeah that's true though and a nice car to build your experience !

Well I don't expect it to be easy, but I've done a few 9 minute flat laps without having a clear lap due to traffic or accidents and that was a couple of years ago since which I haven't bothered timing.

The car is now 120kg lighter with approximately 40 hp more, Arb's new bushes etc and a better driver ;).

I love your Nurburg Paul, it actually gave me alot of confidence and faith in the ability of the Mr2 around the ring. :thumleft:

This year was my second trip & managed about 12 laps , only manged 4 wet laps last year :(
Got to consistently doing 9 mins dead but always too much traffic & yellows - it was probably one of the busiest sundays ever - had to queue for an hour to get in.
To go quickly required some aggressive driving.
With a clear lap another 15 - 20 secs I think would be there fairly easily, after that it's just building up more track knowledge.
Some of the locals do 8:20 in mk2 golfs so a similar time should be easily achievable in a 300hp MR2.

The problem on busy tourist days is a lot of these corners have blind exits & those pesky bikers keep falling off - wouldn't be fun to squash one :pale:

This is one of my mates in his S4 who piled round a corner at 100mph with only 2 wheels on the deck to be confronted by a biker sliding down the road on his ar$e ! Brown trousers all round !

Of course 8:20's and 8:30's are possible given enough power, a proper suspension setup and obviously a experienced driver.. the problem is the traffic combined with the risks. For a 8:20 laptime you'll be pushing it 10/10 and I dunno if that's a smart thing to do on a average Sunday haha :)

But then..with R-compounds it should be relatively "easy".
Another good thing is that they've renewed some sections just before the 24h-race last month.. many bumps like the shitty one in Brünnchen-exit are gone now...Eiskurve is updated with rattle stones on the exit.. etc. etc.

But all the laptimes aside.. I'd just enjoy it as much as you can for the time being.. who knows for how much longer it's possible to drive around the Nordschleife.. now that the "green" parties in Germany are becoming more and more popular among the public..

Sooo when is the next IMOC meet @ Nürburgring ?

Hopfully it's open long enough for me to get a license to race in the 24hr :)

I agree with you about lap times it's not really the point around the ring, given the nature of the sessions and the cost of it going wrong. Plus I do use R compound tyres ;). I mainly enjoy trying to keep up with the resonability well drive Gt3 and M3's

In IMOC Meet around the ring would be fun, I belive a few people got together last year to go round.

And I will be there 4 weeks today as well, well, the 11th.

A group of us '2 owners are going out spread out between a number of the owners clubs.

Should be good, hope the weather is better than last year.

I'm heading down in a small convoy on the 29th August.

I'm preparing my car as best I can for this (within budget lol.) I'm also constructing a *special* 'air purifier' to fit on top of the centre console which I will release details of how I constructed it in the future.

Yeah pity video cameras are banned on Tourist Fharten days. ;)

Shouldn't be hard to spot, we're thinking of getting some funny textual graphics for the cars because we will be compiling a DVD of the obscene amount of footage we will all be taking.

In total we will have 6 cameras! lol

lol.. its a bit mashed up anyway, front bumpers all smashed up from when it 'made friends' with something on a drift event.

I wasn't planning on driving it round, but when I said that he told me I had to do a lap in it!

I have been talking to a company who are looking at privately hiring the Ring next year and selling it to car clubs. They were talking about a maximum of 250 cars there over three days.
It may sound allot but when you think about the size of the track, not everybody will be on there at the same time. It won’t be open to the public, so no slow traffic and you will be able to do as many laps as you like.
