[Mk2] [Turbo] 16" Alloy Tyre Reccomendations.

Post by Rahzel »

Hi guys.

I'm due new tyres soon, especially on the back and i was wondering if you have any recommendations with what to go with?

At the moment i got Goodyear Ducaro Revspec's on the front 205/50/16 and at the back contisport 2's 225/50/16.

I'm not sure on the width of the alloys on the back but i think they are 7's on the front.

I was looking at either

Eagle F1 DSG 3's
Toyo TR-1's
Falken FK452's

I'm sure theres people on here with experience of those tyres listed above.

Thanks for your help :D

You want 205/45 R16 front and 225/45 R16 rear

In theory 205/50 R16 is the correct front tyre size, but in reality this size is a little too big. It is an option, though, and will allow you to use Falken 452s all round.

Your only other option for a decent tyre is Toyo Proxes for the sizes above.

Very limited to be honest in staggered 16in wheels.

You'll have to run 205/50 R16 at the front as 452s aren't available in 205/45. Looks a bit odd, but will give a good ride.

Camskill for the best prices

You can get Falken 451's in 205/45/16 and 452's in 225/45/16, thats what I've just done on mine.
Am quite happy with the results so far :thumleft:

for what its worth mate, when i got my tubby it had toyo proxes t1r's on the 16" alloys, 205/45/16 fronts and 225/45/16 on the rear. and the grip was very good, i could floor it and they would stick to the road perfect.

Put 17" alloys on after about a month with goodyear eagle F1's on and now when i boot it, the rears lose traction and spin.

Maybe this is just due to putting on bigger wheels, but next tyre change i shall be looking to put some proxes on again.

Have had proxes before and was amazing grip with those but, I couldn't get much mileage out of a set, hence the reason for trying the Falken.
Not sure how these will do yet as not had them long enough.
I would say go for the Toyo for pure grip but am expecting the Falken to be a little more frugal and still be grippy. :D

Chr15py has jusy replaced his 225/45 R16 Falken 452s after getting about 6000 miles from them. Like T1-Rs they are a very grippy, soft tyre.

I've just discovered that Avon ZZ3 are availble in the correct sizes for 16in wheels from Camskill. £60 for fronts, £66 for rears!

Oh well, I guess I'll enjoy the grip while they last, then I'll be putting my hand in my pocket again!
