I'm selling my car just now, it's a mint rev 3 GTS and I'm finding that where ever I look there is someone else with rev 3's for much cheaper!
I do believe my car is worth £4k, so I think I'm just going to keep her up for sale until someone who agrees with me comes along!
P.S pics and details are in the for sale section

Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Would be useful if you let us know what it goes for when you do sell it. This is the kind of info that nobody seems to communicate back.

True I guess but proper mint examples are becoming rarer.

No thanks to IMOC members! Almost every car on here is modified in some way! Hey, I am to blame as much as the next guy.

Perhaps in 20 years time IMOC will mature into a classic car forum!

Peter

Bit of a broad statement there.........!!

I doubt out of the 8000 members on this site that they are all modified!!! Maybe half at most :-k

My engine is standard but there has been a few bits and bobs done to the car in japan before it came to me. All little things, like steering wheel, recaro seats, privacy glass, alloys etc.
I'm not intending on dropping my prioce, I'll just keep it until the right buyer comes along

To be honest i say 99% of the cars here are modified in some way,

i dont mean 100% mental turbo's etc.

But most will have a different set of wheels Or a new exhaust, different steering wheel, induction kit. etc

The Mk3's have gone the same way. Deppressingly, still it means someone else can pick up a bargain.

Its the prices of new cars generally.

When you look at what can be picked up for £4-5K nowadays its ridiculous, there is metal there that was unfeasbaly quick in its day and still is.

Plus for the more sedate out there, you can pick up new Hyundai's, Kia's and other cars now, for well under £10K.

Cars are starting to become a disposable commodity - it damages the value of the older cars yet that have not quite reached classic / cult status.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

The US car market is like this.

But FAR worse.

However some cars, especailly Jap power cars are at a premium over there.

It depends whether you look at it from a buying or selling point of view. I wasn't complaining when I bought mine. I mean to think you can pick up a clean rev 3 turbo with loads of expensive Japanese mods on for as little as £3k and sometimes less. It's great for buyers. Only about 2 years ago prices of good rev 3's were still very high, like £5k plus.

Selling obviously! :)

We all have them, and see the rapid depreciation in them within 2 years, i like many other bought the Rev 3 2 years ago for over 5k, some over 6k.

Obviously at some point we would like to trade them in, or sell them in the future, and want the most we can get for them.

Buyers of them..... Well it does attract quite a lot of younger and younger people to them. Not always a good thing!

I was young when i got mine, just like my friend was. We have taken care of them.

Not many young people will, which makes people finding a good example a little harder as they are pretty tatty, also makes for the prices to be lower. :)

JAP BOY wrote:Guys my car is a Rev1 with 71000 miles on it and in my veiw these cars only sell for dirt cheap prices when people want to make a quick sale !

In my veiw a decent rev1 in my books should cost about £4500 with the 71000 miles and two owners from new! High maintance costs usaully forces the owner to sell at cheap prices! Something like a Rev3 + should still pull in about £5500 + which is what i'd be willing to pay for a dcent example not saying that there isn't any decent examples for below 5500!! :)

If only everyone thought like you...... I'm currently trying to sell mine!!

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/269916.htm - (Not a plug)

Last June i paid over £7k for mine, (32300 miles), i've spent well over 2k on parts and servicing. Apart from the exhaust and filter its pretty much standard. The car is Mint and i mean mint inside and out. Mechanically its perfect and all work has been done by Rogue.

As has been said the whole car market in general has taken a hit in the last 12 months.

Like Rhiannan, i'll wait for the right person to come along..........

Its a sad day when i look at the prices of MR2's in general.

OK Guys lets back up here and look at things abit closer!

For starters look at the Mk3 Mr2 i'm sure the MK3 depriciated far quicker than the MK2!
Also what i've noticed in the midlands now is really crap examples of Mr2s now its my belief that alot of these will be destined for a scrap yard sooner or later and those looked after ones will fetch prices good prices!

For eg look at a Escort Cosworth not a popular motor or something like the M3 around R Reg these are still holding value the way it goes is that the value will drop to its lowest after a few years off the production line then as time gets on and more of them are taken out of circulation prices will then start increasing!! :)

understatement of the century that one, escort cossies are still very sought after, thats why the prices are still stupidly high

as for the árse falling out the mr2 market, well for a start they are all imports if you have a tubby, so proving service history is going to be more difficult, its a 2 seater, so not exactly practical, and everyone wants more for their car than what its really worth

and i dont think the mk2 is going to be anywhere near as much of a classic as the mk1...ive had both and the mk1 is the better car imo

as stated, i payed 13k for the phoenix power demo car,

it reaaly depends on the buyer, im a car nut, and price isnt everything.

i have owned it 4weeks, and driven it very little.

i have spent 3k on minor issues, new ecu getting it running properly.

now just have to wait a long time until the sun comes back

i bought mine about a month ago for £850 with some issues hence the price, bought reconditioned gearbox, dropped it in bought new brake discs front and back, replaced petrol cap lol, new wipers, new pads, new battery... total price of car inculding fixing it up = £1500 so still good price and around the amount i expected to pay. getting into the mr2 market is great at the moment its only leaving the mr2 market is bad right now which i think is a great thing! when your in you should never leave mwhahahahaha

If your not in a rush then hang on in there - if you genuinely feel that your car is worth 4k and comparables on Pistonheads etc indicate the price is realistic then it will sell, might just take a while.

I bought a very clean, lightly moddified 1994 REV3 GT Turbo Tbar with 40k on the clock at the start of the year for £5,500 and sold it in August for £5,100. It took a few weeks but I held my ground and didn't drop my price too much from my original asking price. When I put it up for sale on the forum at that price point some people thought I was mad but like you Rhiannon I felt it was worth the money so dug my heels in, acheiving a good price. If your car is a good example then I'm sure you will get a buyer - good luck and keep the faith! :thumleft:

I spoke to Peter at Sbits recently and we both agreed that it's the sheer number of dogs out there that drag values down generally. Also the scrap yard that ebay has become discolours values of all used cars IMO.

However, the MR2 Turbo is an enthusiasts car and the few remaining examples still out there are worth a higher price to the informed buyer. I would rather pay a premium for a good one than try an save a few hundred quid and end up with a dog.

I think the key is in communicating very clearly in your ad just why your car is worth a higher price than the average shed out there.

As we know winter always damages the value of MR2's, plus as I think Toni commented, the climate of high interest rates means a lot of homeowners have less disposable income at the moment. Add to this the increasing numbers of imports and general cars for sale in the marketplace and you have a classic case of supply outstripping demand.

I look at Pistonheads each day and see 3 - 5 new MR2's entering the market on a daily basis...
