[Mk2] [Generic] rogue engine fan kit.....fitted *PICS*

Post by jimGTS »

how do you wire them in???

i presently have tapped into one of the AIT sensor wires and hooked it up to a switch....
so my spal fan on the ic will come on either when the AIT says it needs to, or i can flick the switch and run it all the time....

could i also tap into the same wire on the rouge kit and use the same switch???
how else the fan kit wired in???

also, anyone done any testing with these?? performance/temp readings???

fan kits are great but they do let a fair bit of water into the engine bay !

get a PP or Bomex engine lid to go with it (instant hairdryer blast of hot air out the back). stops water ingress a treat

Great comedy value when anyone crosses the road the road behind the car

them lids work with the fans as well??
dont them lids promote air out the back, and the fans push air upwards, surely this would cause some conflict.

i have noticed about 4 degree oil temp drop with the fans running (only going off what my after market gauges are showing)

mine are wired in to run all the time, 250 quid, i want to get my monies worth

i was contemplated doing what you have done and put it off that sensor, but decided to have it on all the time mate. cant hear it over the nur spec and its the doing its job

must agree with the added water in the engine bay, mine also lives outside so was worried when i had it, but its been in about a year and has not affected anything :D

Ive had em on since Apr '05 an have had no problems. Mine are wired to the fusebox and a relay to a switch in the cabin. They are on when I turn them on.

when you say wired to the fuse box, what does that require?

good to have a switch to because when you try and start the car, the fans will be drawing alot of power soon as the keys in the on position, lol...

4C oil temp drop, what does this actually do?? benifits....
?
i though this mod would be good for 1/4mile queing and RR runs?

it dosnt do alot, just helps with removing heat, 4 degrees was from a to b driving,

if i still give it death the oil temp still rises circa 90 degrees when its time to back off for a bit,

i know what your saying about it drawing current, but like i say never ever ever ever (touch wood) had a problem, started first time evrytime

the only trouble i did have was a dodgy earth , so cleaned it up and jobs a good un

I use a rubber mat to cover the engine with when the car is standing over night or when I wash it. Works a treat :)

ok peeps, i can just place something on the engine bay....
seeing how the engine will be roasting, and by placed something over it, surely this would cause some major heatsoak? and melt the rubber or set fire to cloth, pmsl...

well see

My tubby is my only car and as im a printer i keep a printing plate in my boot. When the cars not in the garage and it looks like rain i place this under the engine cover, its about half a mm thin and is aluminium, approx 20"x 28", enough to channel the rain away from the electrics and keep the cleaning down....

As for the wiring.

Open the fuse box in the engine compartment. There "should" be a thick red wire coming in that is bolted to the box. This is permanent live. I took one nut off and used a ring terminal properly soldered and heat shrinked up and ran that to an external 30 amp relay. I used (and generally do as a rule) terminal 30 for the input of high current voltage. I then hooked up the wired from the fans to terminal 87. I grounded the fans and then fed a parallel hot feed to terminal 86 and ran a single wire into the cabin and ran to a switch where I then grounded the other terminal of the switch. This is a ground control type circuit and reduces the arcing in the switch in the cabin.

had some problems getting the main positive wire out of the fuse box, namely there is NOWHERE itll thread through, so i had to get the drill out and pop a hole in the bottom of the fuse box so the wire could pass out to another fuse....(least i think its a fuse).
its all wired up to a switch that also is spliced into the AIT sensor which i orginally setup for my 7.5inch SPAL fan on my Greddy IC....so ive hooked the Rogue fans inline with this and the switch as well.
benifit of the switch, i can run all 3 fans all the time, or i can have them switched off and i go by the AIT sensor readings, so if the sensor sees to high a temp, the fans will automatically come on, best of both worlds really.

excuse the state of the car, REALLY needs a polish and wax...

PS, i couldnt use the supplied engine arm, just wasnt compatable with my TOMS strut brace...

PPS, these do shiff ALOT of air out, am in sure theyll make a decent enough difference when in traffic with regards to heatsoak.

one thing i did notice, was the air thats being pulled, i thought it would be verticle?? instead the air feels like it goes off at an angle facing the rear pilers of the car, this correct???

good thread !! a lot of useful info :thumleft:

if i dont have the fans, is it still better if i take off the shroud that keeps the water out?? im guessing yes! (then just protect the engine from the elements when its not being driven??)

and my god that shroud weighs a feckin metric ton doesnt it??

cheers

tbh, it didnt feel like it weighed anymore than the standard shroud...+ the fans obviously, so its only really the weigh of 2 fans. which is nout.
