Will certainly keep that in mind.

Never realise the OE cranks are forged.

Bit misleading that advert. Pic shows the rods as well but not
included in the description.
I think this will be a last resort.

You cant run a std crank with stroker pistons - the compression ratio would be so low i doubt the engine would even fire...

What is the damage to the crank? In the picture it does not look too bad, surely you could drill the holes and re-thread them to a bigger size?

looks like it will need re-facing aswell. so in that case i would imagine it would poss need rebalancing too. humm would it need to be assembly balanced or just a simple crank balance tho :-k

any pics of the flywheel?

I wouldn't feel happy doing any of that to a car putting this much power/rpm out.

IMO the only way forward from here is a new matching HKS crank and new flywheel.

not the cheapest but in my mind the correct way to do it. when i was speaking to andy of power vehicles about this car before ahrlow got it from him he told me if i was to buy it he highly recommended a full strip down and rebuild.

looks like he was right :(

hope you get it sorted soon

James, I might be able to hook you up with a HKS 2.2 crank if you need one. Drop me a line at the office sometimes.

Cheers,

Patrick

Car will be trailered to Century Motorsport tomorrow
for post mortem.

At this stage, no one is sure which stroker kit it's got.

Might even be a Jun one.

Have e-mailed Jun to find out whether or not it's ok to grind
the damaged end.

Patrick, if it's an HKS one, i'll be in touch.

scotiamr2t, i don't think this engine needs a rebuild. What happened
was just a stroke of bad luck. After all, how many times have you heard
of bolts coming loose on a crank? There wasn't any knocking on this engine at all although Power Vehicle might have thought otherwise.

Wow, Nice power at 1.2 bar. I am only making 490whp at 1.3 bar. But then again I am on stock valves and ports So I dont have as much lag. But either way YOu have a beast of an mr2. Good luck getting all the issues sorted out and bring her over here to texas for some t88 vs t88 action :)

Further to my voyage of discovery, as someone put it,

it is an HKS stroker and the cams are 288 duration and 10.5 lift.

Well, the crank and flywheel are been repaired. Once done,
the crank, pulley, flywheel and the triple plate clutch will be balanced.

Hoping these will be done by Thurs and then the re-assembly
can commence.

Not putting pressure on Century Motorsport, i hope

Fizz, see you at TOTB. Did you go off and get married somewhere?

Hi Earl, I certainly hope after all these hype (spelling?) that the
car is going to live up to everyone's expectation.

Did ask about changing the T88 to a GT4088 but was told the gain
is only about 500 rpm as far as peak power goes.

Well, the sump is on.

Hopefully, it'll be up and running by tomorrow.

Nathan, rather than sending me the pics that you've taken,
can you post them up here for me, please? thanks.
