Had 205-50-16 & 225-45 or 50-16 on a set up i bought and the tyres were new so stayed with them-michelin pilot sport very good hard cornering
tyre good all round but not stable enough also a bit more comfort with
more sidewall flex than i am used too, that was on rays volks 16" 7&8" with
the usual 25mm odd spacers hubcentric that they came with.(No probably
not sidewall flex just more rubber per se on the higher profile-funny to
go 50 on 16's?)

A far better set up was the enkei rs evolutions using 215-40-16 & 225-45-16 7&8" wide rims with spacers too, this was a dynamic set up on tein ha
coilovers-grb451 falken tyres excellent in all departments-quiet-grainy-
grip-cornering-wear... :D

Ive run the following combinations.

F 205/55 x 16 R 225/50x16
F 205/50 x 16 R 225/50x16
F 205/45 x 16 R 225/45x16

Best copmbination for grip, feel and progressiveness is:

F 205/50x16 R 225/50x16

Don't worry too much about rolling radius, the differences are minute but the differences in feel etc are quite pronounced.

One of the most important things is to use the same type of tyre front and rear.

Yes only use the same front n rear like directional set up like grb 451/2
laser four wheel alignment-balance-set toe-camber the whole shebang \:D/

Which tyres do you use?

Hated bridgestone s02-rough-noisy-fair grip...not my bag any roads.

I used F matey on my old rev 3 turbo :thumleft:

Loads of grip until suddenly........without warning i would be looking out the passenger side window trying to stop a spin! !!

Are they/were they the FALKEN GRB 451/452?

Why i ask this is that the name is also associated with their other model
ZIEX 512-FALKEN?

The 512 is not suitable for the bhp on tubbies and is more of a hatch back

suited tyre around the 75-100 bhp threshold...also not great in the wet.

Other factors which can influence traction as most guys do know

tyre pressure/s
camber/toe/laser alignment settings-set up
aftermarket suspension part-coilovers braces etc...
boost settings-set low in rain-general high bhp car/s
driving style-heavy foot or not or knowing when the limits are near?
traction control
aerodynamics
brkaes
road surface/s
road contamination-no rain-just rained/raining
the tyres-silica compound-hard/soft/medium compound-tread style pattern
directional-speed rating-side wall load factor-the design itself in relation to the end use..etc...
plus loads more other consideration?

They were Bridgestone Potenza's :?

Very hard compound tyre which took ages to warm up, no grip when cold and when really pushing it once warm the grip gave up without warning!

But for that few seconds of bliss, handling like its on rails before putting me in a hedge.....they were great

Mark Edwards ran the following for TOTB 5:

225 x 45 x 16 front
245 x 45 x 16 rear

These were T1-R's.

I know, because I just found the invoice for them.

This is my target size combination

Only thing which worries me is the front as currently have 225-35-17

and the 225-45-16 is one inch taller than the 225-35-17's(set low teins)

and want to fit 30mm spacers... :-k

Identical to me... except I don't think my Sparcos are up to much - I certainly doubt they're lightweight.

A little drift here but with option F (205/45/16 on front and 225/45/16 on rear Toyo's T1-R's) what sort of tyre pressures should you be running?

Would go for...

town n about/ wet weather...31 front 32 rear

motorway longer distance... 32 33

speed run... 33 34

Dont waste time with the garage air pressure for tyre pressure-not accurate

Get a hand guage and check at least twice a week/long trips

I have a foot pump to fill air

i run 16" r32 skyline wheels
6.5j by 16 with 40 offset front (205/45/16) (with 10mm spacer) (r32 gts)
&
8.0j by 16 with 35 offset rear ( 225/45/16)(with 5mm spacer)(r32 gtr)
i didnt need the spacers just used them to get the wheels to run in line with the arches

Do you mean brand or profile? I assume brand...

Harry wrote:and the 225-45-16 is one inch taller than the 225-35-17's(set low teins)

16" with 45 profile on 225 = 406.4 + [101.25 x 2] = 608.9mm
17" with 35 profile on 225 = 431.8 + [78.75 x 2] = 589.3mm

Difference = 19.6mm across the whole diameter, so radial increase is only 9.8mm, not quite so bad. Depends on your offsets as to whether you'd have to raise the suspenders a tad... I did!
