A hole in one of the seals in the master cylinder will also cause the problems you describe.

Suspect this if no fluid seems to be leaking.

Basically what happens is that the fluid passes through the hole in the seal.

Because the hole is quite small, there is a limit to how much fluid can pass through.

If is also possible that under certain circumstances it could momentarily reseal and thus cause the clutch to operate correctly.

This will get worse as the hole increases in size.

Nothing leaks because the leak is occurring internally.

You're not losing any fluid

- it's just going to the wrong place at the wrong time.

You can buy master cylinder service kits from Toyota, they're around

£30.00 which is cheaper than a new master cylinder.

The only way to check this out is to disassemble the cylinder and check for holes in any of the seals.

You also need to check the condition of the cylinder walls.

Any scouring and its new cylinder time, so do this before you buy the service kit!
