450bhp max,minimum spool,td06 or gt3071?

Post by ryan_s3 »

Looking for a turbo to provide 450bhp max with minimum spool-up thinking about a td06 20g or gt3071r with small housing, what do you guys reckon?

GT3071R IMHO - TD06 may struggle to get 450 without running high boost.

well just need a manifold adaptor for the kits and i'm ready to go.

The small Turbo range using a manifold adaptor will use around 8 different turbo's all around the same price, the a GT30+ range using a full tubular manifold.

Don't know on prices yet but they will be competitive as always. Just getting held up with getting a manifold adaptor made up for prototype.

I've got some pics but don't know how to host then

Do you think a td06 20g will outspool a gt3071r ,i want something with minimum spool so was looking at the small housing gt30's.I have a built 2.0 engine.

I am running a GT3071 with a 0.86 exhaust housing and it spools pretty well, its well on boost by 4000rpm and thats just on the actuator. Once dave tinkers with the motec map I would expect it to be a little earlier.

Interestingly if you keep it above 4k rpm its just as responsive as the GT28 was, I was expecting to notice more lag, but its just not there. An absolutely amazing turbo!

I cant compare to the TD06 though since I have never been in a car with one fitted.

hi neil,
Interesting stuff mate, any reason why you went with the .86 housing i assume thats good for 450bhp.Do you think the .64 would be good enough for 450bhp.

Garatt only quote a few bhp between the two
Would really help if you had any dyno graphs etc.

neil which version you got on yours the one with the T25 or T3 Footprint?

Not that it should make much difference but i'm going to be using the t25 footprint to go upto the manifold adaptors, will an external wastegate optional upgrade avalible.

Don't see why i can't use the t3 foorprint for when i do the tubular manifold kits for the GT30 and GT35r (sorry old terms there)

I dont have any dyno plots yet since its not mapped and its only running a smidge over 1 bar.

We went for the 0.86 exhaust housing to improve boost control and keep the internal wastegate. Ideally I should have gone external but it was a PITA to get a new downpipe made up and im not that bothered about the spoolup as long as its responsive once its on boost.

how do you find boost controller with the internal gate?

I dont know yet to be honest, the current map is for the GT28 running 1.9 bar and im nervous to even try it out in case anything bad happens!

Its currently running 1.15 bar on a 1.2 bar actuator and its doing exactly what it should do. Turbo Dynamics moved the actuator position and did some other tweaks to improve the boost control, so all being well things should be sweet - but im not going to be convinced until dave gets his hands on the motec :)

Still only likely to wind her up to 1.6 bar for the early part of the year - still should be over 400bhp though which is plenty for the track ;)
