Safe to remove the manifold heat shields??

Post by un1eash »

Is it safe to remove the top heat shield? I'm pretty sure ive got a cracked manifold now but cant tell untill the shield is removed and i just know the bolts will shear when i remove them.

Cheers

well its save to be be aware you may not be able to get it back on and then youll be more vulnerable to heatsoak , id invest in some heatwrap before hand so if its ok when you take it off you can just wrap it up and carry on , or better still hope its cracked and then fit an upgrade , heat wrap that and then carry on with extra BHP :)

(dont mean to be a jinx fingers crossed its ok)

Fensport will sell yu a 2nd hand manifold for £35 +Vat and delivery.

You can remove the heatshield. I did it. It did start melting the material found on the engine bay/rear of cab divider.......the vibration I had on the exhaust turned out the be destroyed manifold/downpipe gaskets. So £4 fixed that. new gaskets and it was sorted....
However if your bolts snap off on the heat sheild then you going to need to go to either Mr. T or the scrappy for some....unless you can buy the from a hardware store.... :-k
