Been tarting my engine bay up and have inadvertently caused an issue.
Firstly when I put the key to the on position (not start position) the starter motor engages which is obviously incorrect, I tested each wire at the starter relay connector and they responded as expected. I then took the cover off the relay and the relay intermittently switched when the key was in the wrong position so I'll replace the relay just as a measure. Also The ground from the relay goes to a multi pin connector in the engine bay fuse box, when I tested this back to the chassis it gave a reading, I was expecting to see no resistance?
Second problem is I'm not seeing a spark, (I bypassed the starter relay and wired up a button switch and put the key to on) the power is making it to the fuse for the ignition coil but I'm not getting a reading on the lead to the distributor.
Does the ignition and starter system share a common earth that I may have not connected to cause both these issues? And if so where is it located? Or any other thoughts?
Hope you guys can help.

Your problem is the earth on the bottom of the inlet manifold. Or the lack of.
