Steve - that's not actually a bad idea - I was wondering what to do about the big cap in the middle with regards to air flow etc. and that may look pretty decent!
Magicbeans I've not noticed mine flaring tbh, but haven't actually fitted it on the car yet! When setting it on the floor I noted that the back edges (wheel arch) curve upwards, and the whole underside of the bumper is all over the place. This might lead to problems when fitting the splitter as the ripples will show in the metal!
If I get the chance this week I'll make a template - will that extended section catch on anything? Shouldn't be difficult to make

As well as going upwards with it in the centre to follow the bumper maybe even copy how the centre section sits inwards an inch as well if you know what I mean
it looks good.
But make sure its attached well!! The amount of force from the wind at high speed could rip it off which might not be good for the car behind lol

Might be an idea to measure the width at that edge and see how it compares to the bodywork. It might be that mine in an exception but it's better to sort it now rather than when you'd faffed about mounting it

These all seem like good ideas, but I cant help thinking that the material being used is to thin and rather than push the car onto the road they will just bend.
Has anyone made and tested it at speed, ie at about the 100mph mark? I will be doing this for a track car but I was planning on using 5mm tread plate alluminium for strength.

Make it functional as per Time Attack 'budget' approach : WPB waterproof 3/8" ply with rally spotlamp stabiliser bars to brace.
Projecting 2-3" out from bumper (not 5" projection like Time Attack) compromising downforce but still a good push down at speed with good looks.
You could alway skin it with either vinyl wrap (or Plasti Dip spray on).
Add the alumium sheet with ends bent as per your prototype, extending back in integral undertray.
Measure everything up before you mount so we can all do one ourselves!

If you're gonna go for a big splitter I'd think about trying to brace to the front structure rather than the relatively flimsy bumper as this will increase both strength and stiffness of the assembly.
Also, running your undertray as far back as possible will increase downforce, particularly if you have low side skirts or even a rear diffuser fitted.

Yes this was definitely in my thought pattern, I wasn't thinking
That bolting to the front bumper ( especially in FRP ) would hold
Under heavy forces that would be applied over 100mph etc.
I'll have to look into places that would be strong to bracket the the splitter
To on the chassis.

I made a splitter for Jon in the end (MR2TurboBoy) - he'll probably have a few pics, there are definitely some in the Le Mans trip thread.
Here's the splitter I ended making for mine, but removed due to it scraping all the bloody time and doing my head in (especially at over 80mph - it was obviously having a noticeable effect on downforce!) Excuse the black tape - the paint flaked on the front of it and I didn't want to paint it again..
It's 2mm aluminium - probably wouldn't bother with the undertray section next time, just make a lip/splitter out of 3 or 4mm ali. Don't worry about supports etc. because the bumper flexes so much you'll be wasting your time!
It'll fit an Aeroware front lip - if I can find it then you can have it mate

At the time it was 16x7/8 et 35 with AD08R, P.Mu front calipers with Carbotech AX6 and Koni Yellows all round with Eibach rear springs and unknown front springs..

You did a good job with that splitter Cal. The canards look pretty mean too.
I'm wondering if it'd be possible to brace through the grill to some bracketry hanging off of the radiator?? Perhaps with the fog lights removed.
Another option would be to drill holes in the undertray and brace directly upwards behind the front bumper into the crash beam or something else in that area.
I love the styling of the MR2 but the aero is god awful lol.

That is by far the nicest splitter I've seen on a 2, very well shaped following the lines.. wouldn't mind one myself

thats very kind pal, however the main reason I'm doing this is that I'm
changing my front bumper to a border style. Its because I'm sick and tired of having
about 4cm's of clearance of the road lol. I have a polyurethane
aeroware from lip and although it has a nice amount of flex, it can't get up any
incline thats not super low !
Basically want to have a functional splitter that runs under the front of the car
but doesn't create so much downforce that It ends up putting my front end
into the tarmac at 100mph lol. Ideally it have it braced to the car and not
the FRP border bumper.
On time attack forums on FB everyone lists that marine ply is best to used
if you can't afford full carbon, then skin it in FRP or Carbon. Gonna
get some ideas also from them, but its mounting points under the car that I
think will be the tough point.
Dont get me wrong this may seem OTT for a road / occasional track car,
but if you can do something properly. Thats how I do it
