I've been ratther shafted by Autoglass.

Had an appointment Sunday 17th for them to replace my windscreen.

They

(said they) could source the correct, bronze tint, non-sunstrip glass that my car requires.

The fitter removed the existing screen, his main concern being the possibility of rust around the aperture

- fair enough.

My car's had a replacement screen a few years back and has had the rust round the aperture treated.

No rust was found.

Unfortunately the replacement glass the fitter brought with him was rejected by the guy himself

- it had scratches on it that we couldn't clean/polish out.

He spoke to his depot, who said they could get another suitable screen ready for tuesday when he could come back and fit it

(after 6pm, which suited me).

Tuesday came, I was contacted by Autoglass central who said the glass hadn't arrived at their dispatch and they wanted to reschedule till today

(friday).

I get a call from the fitter this morning saying

"can you get home for 11.30 I'm going to be there early".

(I work on a day rate, I have to forfeit half a days pay to meet this appointment).

I get home at 12.30 and I'm contacted by Autoglass central again

- the fitter has taken a closer look at the glass and it's been contaminated

- it's had some fluid go over it which has produced a rainbow effect which he can't remove.

The fitter who asked me to get home early didn't actually contact me, he just didn't show up and got his dispatch to tell me that he wouldn't make it

- who asked me to give them access on Wednesday when they will turn up with yet another piece of glass.

(Another afternoon off work)

So i'm pretty pi$$ed off with Audoglass for making and breaking 2 appointments.

They're asking for a third appointment

(which will cost me income) and I'm not hugely confident they'll be able to source a windscreen without some sort of fault.

The car has been immobile, insecure and not weatherproof since last sunday, but thankfully hiding under a cover.

So

- what are other people's experiences

? Are windscreens getting particularly hard to source

? Any recommendations for good experiences

? I accept that these sw20s are getting pretty old, but be warned if you need new glass, check the replacement glass before letting them remove the old one.
