Hi. Any ideas for names of insurance companies to insure the MR2 with? Currently just lapsed with Admiral. Admiral for last two years, mods are decat, air boz and exhaust. They were fine with that. Now I want to put my Gizzmo electronic boost controller back in but they say they can't do it.
I like Admiral as I've heard of them. Was with Aviva before that. Any ideas for companies with a nationwide well known name, that may insure a boost controller?

Sky/Adrian Flux? Both affiliates on here.
Re: Insuring an MR2 with electronic boost controller
Sky often overpriced these days. Look for the independent specialists that are small....often give better modified prices.

Overpriced just for you or for many? They're cheapest for me on my mk1, Corolla T Sport and GT86.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.
Re: Insuring an MR2 with electronic boost controller
id stay away from all the well known names unless you've got a well known car. like a fiesta or a 206. the boost controller will make you more likely to crash. not cause your car is faster but cause you're looking at it and trying to set it rather than looking at the road.

I have been going between Sky and Adrian Flux for the last 10 years I think. I declare all mods and these two always come in the almost cheapest for me. I probably try 6 companies a year after reading the threads to see who has lowest premium but to be honest none of them that may be slightly cheaper (£10 -20) offer a better service than these guys when you review all the cover. My experience any way.

Checked Sky. £460 for 7000 miles comprehensive with Berk decat pipe, Apexi exhaust, Arc induction plus the Gizzmo boost controller.
Admiral my current insurer which has just lapsed but want to insure on the three mods already there as last year (but won't do a boost controller) is £311.
Makes you wonder..............................

Insurance renewal
www.classicline.co.uk been ok here, NCD protected not actual classic car insurance where you lose NCD after two years.

They used to insure my Turbo with no issues, this was a couple of years ago now though. I'd do an online quote via one of the comparison sites and then use that as a reference for negotiating with them (i.e. tell the call centre they are talking rubbish).

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
Re: Insuring an MR2 with electronic boost controller
Have you tried speaking to a few people at Admiral? I got wildly (really) different levels of help depending on who I was talking to. Sometimes it just takes someone on the phone willing to check it out properly rather than just "boost controller isn't on this list mate".
When I've got through to a UK/North America Admiral call centre I got the most help.

Re: Insuring an MR2 with electronic boost controller
Admiral told me they insure up to 5 mods. Had to go elsewhere because of that. I'm now with Keithmichaels.co.uk
Rev1 Tubby, Garrett GT3071R, Motec M4 EMS, 880cc delphis, Rev3 turbo port polished built head/cams/titanium retainers, shim under buckets, HD springs, etc., rear bumper mounted intercooler, and vanilla air freshener.

I had a very similar thing going between Sky and Adrian Flux for the six years I had a Skyline. Prices were always very similar, as was the service over the phone. However, I never needed to make a claim in that time but from what people used to say about Sky, their service wasn't as good with modified cars and claims as Adrian Flux were. Again, not my experience, just what was mentioned on the forums...

just tell them you have upped engine power by less than 25% and they should be fine. That's how my policy is worded though my renewal has yet to fall through the letter box..

Hi,
Did you give us a try for insurance at all? If so how did we do?

Dan.
