[Mk2] [Turbo] Help with wiring in cdplayer / dash?

Post by TheDockter »

So ive just bought another turbo and the previous owner has made a complete mess of the wiring trying to install a crappy chinese dvd player, cut everything up! I dont know whats what as it is!? I have a donor car with complete wiring and my question is...

If i can? How far do i have to go back from the cd player wiring to find a clip/connection so i can change it back to a clean loom?

Thanks

You need to decide what your aiming for, if your going for a simple 2/4 speakers with a cd player arrangement then you should be able to fix the mess in under an hour with a multimeter.

If you have the amplified system and wish to keep it then it will be more complicated but is still do able.

If your going with the first choice you want to get yourself a pair of male iso connectors(ebay or scrapyard) and fit them to the cars loom that will then mean any aftermarket headunit will plug straight in. Are you keeping the Chinese unit?

Yeh it doesnt have the active system, just normal speakers and headunit... I want just a normal clean and tidy wiring... I dont think im gunna keep the dvd unit, its messy and doesnt fit properly! Theres just wiring connected to everything!? Like 2 on the hazards, 2 pn the cig lighter and 2 going through to the battery!? I just dont know what they were playing at!

I think itd just be easier to rip it all out and start again, if it doesnt take that long i would prefer to just swap the looms?

How would i do it with a multimeter?

Thanks

Ive no idea about swapping the looms but all the wiring you need should already be there you just need to use a multimeter to find it.

For the power side of things there will be,
A permanent 12v
a switched 12v
an earth
a 12v switched by the lights
a wire going to the aeriel to raise it (remote)

Thats the 5 used on a standard power iso plug. On the other standard iso plug are the 8 wires for the speakers, there in 4 pairs, 1 pair to each door and 1 pair to the crappy speakers in the b posts.

To find them with a multimeter you only need to know how to use the dc volts setting and the continuity setting or resistance settings if your unit doesn't have continuity.

All 13 wires should be behind the stereo already you just need to dig around to find them you'll also need access to the speakers to continuity test there wires. Then its just a case of cutting and tidying them all up and soldering them to iso connectors

It shouldn't take more than a couple hours at most it's quite simple once you get into it
